I think they wanted me too do the work for beer money lol!

I handed out my card to a fire and flood restoration company and they called the next day saying they had a bunch of appliances they needed to get rid of. I said ok and went to check the job out cuz I was right around the corner. They had 1 fridge and 1 stove each on 3 different floors of a house so 3 fridges and 3 stoves. All the fridges still had nasty stinky rotten moldy food in them and the one downstairs was completely full of maggots! To make it worse the fridge and stove on the 3rd floor was caked in roach feces...... i mean not one square inch was still white! So they wanted me to do this job for free!.... i not think so. Very labor intensive and I wi=ould have dump fees for the crap in the fridges and I'd need equipment to keep me and my guy clean(don't want any chances of roaches getting in my house!) I quoted them $150...... haven't heard back from them ! hahaha. Oh well, they can find someone else willing to do it for $20 bucks and who doesn't care about safety and their health. I'm running a business here.. not a charity!












Ive made mistakes in my life . Ive let people take advantage of me & I accepted way less than i deserve.
But I've learned from my bad choices & even though there are some things i can never get back & people who will never be sorry.
I'll know better next time.
& I wont settle for anything less than i deserve . I've learned lately that you cant always trust people . They build you up & slowly watch you break.
But i have no regrets , no matter how much I want to forget about everything because at one point , it was the reason I woke up every morning , the reason why I was always smiling , it was exactly what I lived for.

Sounds like the fire and flood damage restoration company was called to do some disaster relief, disaster in this case being a house full of messy tenants who didn't pay their rent, and a landlord who let it set untouched for far too long

$150 ? I wouldn't touched it for less than $300, sounds like one of those jobs that require a lysol bath afterwards

I agree and it is the main reason I am moving away from contracting. It is a blessing when someone appreciates what you do for them and shows it. Last week I hauled out a pile of office furniture. As I secured everything one of my guys ran the sweeper and cleaned up. Yesterday I went and relocated their copier. 5 miles, under an hour and charged $150. I have decided that $150 is my minimum for any kind of call out. I just simply state that to my customer and they are very receptive. I alweays tell them that dump fees are additional and if there is a loading fee for larger loads.

I deal with people all the time that think $20 means something. $20 isn't even a 1/4 tank of gas in my truck. I am not you nephew, cousin, or brother-in-law. I am a business with insurance, overhead, and expenses. I'll be your friend with a truck but be prepared to pay me FAIRLY.

I would've done it

I used to haul metal for a guy who did foreclosure clean outs. I did it for about 3 years. He would get paid on volume removed and I would haul his metal items away for free so he could avoid dump fees. Almost every job had a fridge that was removed. These are people who were kicked out of their house so there were always food items left in them. The fridges were so nasty (the smell was terrible) I quit doing it unless he dumped the contents out. The last item he asked me to remove was a deep freezer that was full of old meat. He had the lid taped shut and wanted me to haul it away. It had been like that for 2-3 months and you could smell it from 20 yards away. I refused politely and I guess he found someone else since he quit calling me. I haul more construction debris type stuff so I am fine with letting that go.

I learned my lesson with this when I worked with a guy who did clean-outs for the State. I thought I was getting the metal stuff to save him dump fees. My plan was to load the trailer as his guys loaded the dumpster. That was the way we did the first job. Second job was a two-day job. First day was just dumpster stuff (furniture etc). Problem was, it was about 100 miles away so I was stuck. I got a trailer load of refrigerators (seven, if I remember right) and P/U load of other metal stuff but I was stuck helping for two days for it. Come to find out, my labor in exchange for whatever I got was his original plan. Definitely not worth it. Haven't worked with him since.

After 20 years of doing what is considered manual labor I have come to a few conclusions.

My tools cost alot of money, and I continue to spend more, and more, and more. They are mine, I love them, each and every one. Some more than others. My Dewalt 18V Impact Driver is one of the absolute necessities. I probally have a hundred or more in just drill bit accessories.

My years of experience in learning how to do things has been earned with blood, sweat, and and occasional wimper(no tears). LOL

I have a strong work ethic. I get the job done and go on to the next thing I need to do. Pay me a flat rate and let me see how fast and well I can get the job done. As a favor I will come out for $150 a day.

If you pay $10 an hour that is what you get.

So when you call me to do a job expect a professional, with the skill to get the job done right. AND if something goes wrong, I am not perfect, BUT I will fix it. So be prepared to pay me fairly it will seem like a premium but youll get what you pay for.

Today I had a load that came from my aunts house, it was an old computer mainframe that has been gutted out, it was mixture of both steel and aluminum.
I took all of the steel first and second load, and on the last load was all aluminum, I made a total of $ 365.56, but when i got back to my aunts house she took the money and paid my only $ 183.00, she shorted me four dollars on that load.
I can tell you this I won't be doing any hauling for any more.

Wait...wait? Trying to decipher your message.

If it was a 50/50 then 1/2 of 365.56 is 182.78 which is a difference of 22 cents. Unless there is more to it I wouldn't cry over $4. You now have $183 that you didn't have and she could have hired someone else to haul it away.
