Hey all it's been awhile lol been busy. I got a question for ya.
I picked up an old ford truck engine and was wondering should I strip it or scrap it whole? I do plan on cutting off the alt. for the elec.motor.
Should I sell it with my tin or sell it by itself (special trip)?

you should be able to get to the starter easy since its pulled, take off the carb for breakage, id leave it at that and scrap the rest whole imo
You should be able to sell the uncleaned block as a dirty motor, the grade is higher than tin.
Don't forget to remove any loose battery cables still on it (if applicable). Should be at the starter and a smaller one at the alternator.
it being an old Ford engine, I think i would remove the alt and starter ( like you said ) and then scrap it whole. If it had been a newer motor out of a 4 cylinder i think i would at least check the head(s) for aluminum. However, if the motor runs, i would probably try to use it. I have been trying to locate a free running engine, to try to build a small saw mill, to mill my own lumber.

Strip the motor down and sell the block and heads for cast and the rest for shred.
The motor might have alum heads or more on it.

reckon an old ford 6 cyl valve cover's worth anything? Has "powered by Ford" molded into the top
Sure hope not bear, because I've thrown bunches of em in the shred pile !
Anybody ever done a calculation on stripping it vs straight shred? I can't justify tearing it down for just a couple of bucks.

I never strip. Pull the motors rest shred.
I just took the altenator off and brought the motor to the yard got 20 some buck for it or around .07-.08 cents a pound. I should have thrown it with the tin for weight.
