Hello from Colorado

Hey guys and girls,

My name is Josh and I stumbled on this forum about a week ago after a buddy of mine and I were talking about getting started scrapping. We are both broke as a joke and cannot even afford to buy a truck to haul anything so it will be up to me to haul everything in my little subaru outback. I have been reading the forums a bunch to answer my questions and would just like to hear from you guys that started with nothing and now have a profitable business. It looks like we may have decided to get into the business at a bad time, but most of the stuff we are coming across costs us nothing except the gas and our time so as far as we are concerned it is all gravy. Any tips or advice is always appreciated.

No time better then the present...prices have been better and they have also been worse, so read the old posts about breaking stuff down to maximize profit and don't look back. Rocky Mountain Recycling is a great place to go in Denver Metro.

Welcome, now is a plenty good time to get into the biz. Until the day there is no recyclable material in the trash there is a living to be made. I recommend Vic Muniz's movie Waste Land .. watch and get inspired. Your car is plenty good for scrappin. I used a Nissan B-210 hatchback for years and made a good living, be prepared to use the car to its fullest, remove the seats in back, put some eye bolts through the roof (unless you have a roof rack). The key is making lots of contacts, being polite and reliable. tweekers give this biz a bad rap. Best of fortune to ya!!

Hello Mr E. The scrapping game is quite fun AND profitable, IFFFFFF you are motivated enough to get out and Search for the revenue streams. I started with a POS 1994 Ford
Ranger and basic hand tools. (screwdrivers, a hatchet, a hammer, pliers and wire cutters.) IF you are motivated enough, you can search and find income streams that have NOTHING to do with metal. There are recyclers of Metal, Wood, Carpet Padding, Cloth, and MANY others, you just have to get out there (in person and via the internet to find them). Once you find a NICHE Market, you can make MUCH $$$$. Get your income coming in, then buy more tools and/or find more income streams, after that your income jumps, buy more tools, a truck or whatever, find more $$ then more recycler's, then more tools/trucks. It just keeps building (IF) you are Willing/Motivated to go out and find it!

Welcome aboard from a fellow Coloradan. Started at age 15 with nothing but the clothes on my back and a 50 cent sack of cans collected from the ditch I was sleeping in. A reasonable living can indeed eventually be achieved here.

Thanks for all the encouragement guys! As for removing the rear seat, I have two little ones so that isn't an option, but I do plan on using the car to its fullest!
