I get a lot of these things ranging all over the place in sizes and types. Anyone happen to know buyers for these things? i never even got more than 1 or 2 no shows on CL trying to sell them.

Maybe fifty pounds so five bucks as scrap? Price yours lower than others on CL and they should sell, people always need them. Always keep one or two on hand to sell, but if they begin accumulating a scrap run is in order.
I just recently converted five of them to shelf supports. See, I got these big heavy commercial doors and inspiration struck...
I expect filing cabinet demand is basically on the wane, since everything has gone to computer now. I've had one or two of them things myself over the years, and really don't recall ever really using it. I think Burly's right on, keep one or two and underprice
If you scrap them they are not shredd. I repeat they are not shredd. They are one and half bundle material. They should be sold to a scrap yard that has a baler or else you are getting ripped off. There is at least a 100 dollar a ton difference. Shredd is the lowest price you can get at the yard number one bundle material is a grade below clip.
Thanks PSP, last one I picked up was a two drawer with a dent in the top. I filled both drawers with scrap (saved on my 5 gal pails for a little while) and tossed 'er in the pile.
I don't think either of my yards has any such category.
mine either every yard ive talked to in denver only pays shred for them.
I won a locker with 20 + high end file cabinets in it ( 3 lockers @ 10 X 30 for $ 185 ) , couldn't get a nibble on Craig's , gave some to neighboring shops and just scrapped the rest as they took up too much space . ( Note- This was before the Fake B.S. TV Shows )
One locker was all office furniture , but the same weekend I advertised , so didn't a Large Mortgage company that was going OOB .
They offered 3 floors of office furniture ( minus computers etc. ) for free , just bring your truck/trailer , pick out what You wanted , and they would load You .
So you picked up more file cabinets, right?
I sell a lot of office furniture and the main things to look for when selling this line of product is brand, measurements, and condition. You will sell a HON file cabinet faster than a generic brand. Other than price, measurements are the MOST common question when people purchase office furniture. The second most common are condition and whether or not you deliver. Make sure when you advertise on CL, the above items are in the body of the listing. As with other items, it is all about right place/right time with regards to how fast it sells. If you have the room for storage, try CL for 30 days and if it doesn't sell, part it out first, than scrap it. Remove lock (entire cylinder) and internal file bars and external handles as they sell very well. Also, think outside the box with regards to selling. Instead of waiting for a buyer, look in the wanted section of CL as well as the barter section. Sometimes new businesses (needing furniture) will barter something like a file cabinet for their service or product.
It seems like every time I have a garage sale I always have 2 or 3 of the taller type cabinets. Always sold for 15 to 20 bucks. I live near multiple schools so there's always a young teacher looking for something for her class on the cheap.

That's how the scrap yards make there money. If you deal in great volume most all yards give more for the number one bundle material. Most yards don't or wont tell you that and people don't know to ask. The key to get more money is volume and clean material that's no plastic alum. foam. PSP is right. In Philly there are certain yards that will pay accordingly and there is defenitely a price difference. I just came across 18 long cabinets myself answering a CL ad for free comdial impact phones. The place is going paperless and is getting rid of all of their filing cabinets. I wish I had enough space to try and sell, but looks like they are going straight to the yard.
We buy a lot of metal at the door and have a 40 foot steel container we fill every day. We typically will not take filing cabinets unless it is a good supplier as they take up too much room in the container without enough weight.
They do make wonderful storage facilities. We got a bunch yesterday and today we filled them with laptop batteries, chargers and a bunch of other things.
