Hello,
I work for a local sanation company and we can pretty much take whatever we want.. I have gotten into the habit of cuttin the wires from blenders, coffee machines etc but insulated copper is no where near the price of #1 or #2.. Can someone point me the right way.. also we pickup sinks, faucets, computer towers, etc... I dont want to step on anyones toes but its a cut throat economy and Im just trying to make ends meet..

Those should be number two copper but there is not really a lot of copper there. About 20-35% recovery.
Your low-grade copper wire is normally alot of plastic compared to the copper which is why it pays so low. Computer towers have small trace amounts of gold in them, sinks are normally a low grade stainless alloy. And when it comes to brass there is so many different types it would be impossible to narrow it down. First step would be is it an Alpha-Brass or an Alpha-Beta-Brass. But odds are the local scrapyard buys it as yellow brass. Hope this helps.

Hey hey! Another NC'er! Woot. Greetings from my sandbar on the OBX. Far as stepping on toes...don't think any of us SMF folks from NC are in your neck of the woods. I could be wrong tho.
On insulated wire...I get .80lb here for my insulated. Might not be the best, but it works for me. The insulated I deal with comes from tv's and other various electronics, or anything with wire..lol. At .80lb it's easier to just toss it in my bucket as I cut it then worry about stripping it. Only ones I worry about stripping are those fat juicy degaussing wire in the tv's and monitors I pick up. Otherwise it goes in the bucket. I could make more but I lack a decent wire stripper and to be honest it's quite the PITA to bother stripping those little wires. I don't have enough beer to give me the patience to sit there and strip each tiny little wire. lol.
