Laser printer radiation?
just took apart a new laser printer. there is a box with the laser inside, with a big yellow sticker. It says (In 9 languages) INVISIBLE LASER RADIATION WHEN OPEN AND INTERLOCK DEFEATED. AVOID DIRECT EXPOSURE TO BEAM. CLASS 3B LASER PRODUCT.
my curiosity wants to see whats inside... do you know if it is safe to open? Or is it only dangerous when the laser is on?

Only dangerous if you look into them while they're on.

Do you know if there is anything inside that is worth opening it for? It still worries me a little

There's a tiny lens (looks like a baby camera lens) and 2 or 3 strips of mirror, and a small (1"x 2") circuit board. At least in the ones I've taken apart. A real disappointment.

Thanks guys. As long as it's safe, I will take it apart just cause I like tinkering and seeing how things work. Printers are one of the most intricate machines I've dealt with. So many working parts packed into such a small machine. The worst part was when I had that black powder pour out on my work bench... Glad I have a shop vac.

Hey Mechanic, on that 1"x2" board did it have a gold or silver eprom on it. The board I'm talking about is on the out side of the box. This is what I was talking about in a post last night. I was wondering what these eproms are worth.
