Newbie experience with Coaxial
I thought I had a great spot picking up scrap wire at a cable company dumpster. Everyday, I pass by from work and find something whether its RJ11, TW/THW, video cable, and coaxial cable. I know that the TW/THW was the only wire taking but I am keeping the video cable and RJ11 to find a yard that will take it as insulated and not shred iron.
But this is where my inexperience really stands out. I knew that coaxial is junk, but on the double banded coaxial there is a small piece of copper wire that runs along side of it. I thought that maybe no one was taking the small wire because of the light weight and that it was with coaxial. I must of have stripped 30 ft of this wire until I nicked it and the core was a silver color. Did a web search and found out that it is Copper-clad Steel (CCS). What an idiot I felt like, spending all that time.
The best part is that my community had a group garage sale this weekend and trash was never picked up because of Memorial day (perfect, because it gives me more time to find wire). My trash can is overflowing with this stripped CCS. Than on Saturday like every half hour there is a knock at my door with someone who explains to me that they scrap and would like permission to take wire from the can. I explain and we have our laugh. Sunday a day of rest, not likely. Same thing all day long. I stopped explaining the CCS and told them to have at it. I was able to get the rest of coaxial out tonight. Neighbors are wannabe yuppies and look down at my wife and me, must of loved it after they were selling their snooty junk and then watching their patrons pick through my garbage and shove CCS in their Macy shopping bags. Classic.
