E-noob

I'm sure this has been answered, but im tired of looking.
I Just recently (because of this forum) started getting computers and other things with boards. The scrapper in me wants to take everything off of every board and sort everything into designated buckets.
Should I only seperate the cpu's, rams, and gold ends? Should I have a resistors bucket?, relays bucket?, transformers bucket?, batteries bucket?, yadda yadda yadda bucket?
Or do I need to forget my 'take everything apart' motto, and leave the boards whole so they weigh more?
I guess what i'm wondering is if an e-scrapper has 4-6 buckets or 15-30 buckets.

My yard takes motors and transformers together in the same bucket, don't know about your yard tho;
I take the ram, finger cards and heatsink/cpu off the motherboard; separate the heatsink away from the cpu. Most heatsinks are extruded alum. Everything else stays on the m-board. All that is contingent upon how your buyer wants them prepped. Pick your favorite buyer and read his postings or offers to buy and you'll have a better idea how they want their stuff prepped. Now when it comes to the brown low grade boards, I pull the transformers and other CBM chokes/coils, and the bigger IC chips off. Occasionally I pull the bigger relays. That'll get you started,,,

Also remember any printer that has a card slot or usb plug-in or fax machine seem to have 1-3 or more mid-hi grade boards and at least 3 small motors. Also don't forget the small board with the dots that the ink cartridge connects to.

I don't come across much e-waste. but I'm gonna start saving up until I have a good load. May take years. But I still wanna do it right. Thanks for the tips. looks like I'll have to control my urges to consolidate all the pretty colors into their own jars.
For now I'm just gonna have buckets for:
Mother
Mid grade
Low grade
Heat sink
cpu
ram
Transformers?
motors
hows this list for starters>?

you also need a bucket for the wires inside and one for the gold bearing cable ends and from the ribbon cables.

Those are the same, there's gold in the ends of the ribbon cables also,,,

gold ends also yes. I scrap wire all the time so the wire just goes in with my #1 or #2 insulated.

You might consider adding a bucket for mylar. You'll come across it in keyboards and elsewhere. It's worth something in quantity, but, if you don't have a bucket, you might end up tossing it in the trash and that would be lost $.

For boards there are Low, Mid, High, Mother. is the only difference between Mid and High gold pins?

I have some pegboard hooks on the wall and that's where I hang my mylar, doesn't take up a bucket that way. Also do have a bucket for speakers, I figure when I get a large bucket full then I'll knock the magnets off of them. And for you guys that come across a lot of the clad coax we were talking about last week, don't forget to cut the screw-on connectors off the coax, their brass.
