    The Hoard and Score

Here is the first video I took from the hoarder house that we are working with. The guy who ownes the place used to sell us boards...We would pop in every now and then and buy what he had...Until we came along he was just throwing the boards away...He would pick up electronics from anyone that would give them to him and then just pile everything in his yard. He would pick up anything free....Well it all came to a head when the city started fining him $50 per day until he gets the place cleaned up....We had no idea what we were getting into when we started...lol

Thus far we have pulled 1100 pounds of wire out of this place along with 700 pounds of electric motors....That is in addition to near 3 tons of electronics that we will end up with. Of course we have also hauled 3 eighteen foot trailer loads of trash out of the place....We still have days ahead of us with this deal.

Very sad site. A sick mind made that pile. I am glad you are cleaning it up, Mike.

I've worked with a hoarder in the past, he has since died due to his mental illness. Committed suicide. "Hoarders" are no joke. When i dealt with him, it wasnt like dealing with a client. It was like dealing with a dieing friend, and i didnt even know him. Deep down, he saw me as someone who he knew would help him with his situation, on the outside, he lured me in with "you can have this, and this, and let me show you how this works".

That's awesome that it's paying for ya. Just be sensitive to him and his family. Something as strange as that stack of buckets could be as dear to him, as a child is to it's mother. Strange, but true.

    Again, awesome score. Congrats.

This deal has been a bit easier for us since the guy understands the ramifications of what has happened and why it can't be that way. I think he is part hoarder and part a person that just let something get away from them. He wanted to make money with the stuff that he had in the yard but was spending too much time getting stuff and not enough time selling or processing the items. We allow him to keep what he would like within reason. We are contracted with him to put his place into compliance with Code Enforcement so we have to be careful or we will get bit in the backside. We told him we would clear out his garage and sheds so he could continue to get stuff but just keep it inside so they would leave him alone. Thus far he has only kept a select few items, mostly dishes, that would have no value to us....We managed to get Code Enforcement to stop the fines as long as we are there working on it to save him the money.

My question to you would be. Why not get a 30 yard roll off for the trash? It would have to be cheaper then making runs to the dump with that trailer.

No place to put it..the guy lives in town and right on top of his neighbors.

Another method of de hoarding is to have a yard sale and post it on Craigslist. You might be surprised what people will buy. The hoard I worked last month listed on Craigslist and they made 5k the first day. We didn't price anything just make an offer and loaded their trucks as fast as we could three or four at a time. Some people went nuts over the stuff one guy would not leave.

Unfortunately Skippy this isn't a free country, and due to property taxes everywhere the counties and cities have a vested interested in enforcing zoning restrictions so they can keep up property values, thus keeping up property taxes.
