Question Does anyone know if this is a scam of some sorts?

I am selling my little 1981 Toyota truck on craigslist.

I revived an phone call with a guy asking questions about the truck.....normal stuff nothing new, but asked if I had a wal mart near me. He said that he would call me back in a few minutes.

Well, he called me back and said that he wanted the truck and he would send the money to me through wal mart money center......I keep waiting for the hook, but nothing.......He said that he would call me tomorrow between 3pm and 4pm with a number that I can use to get the money from the money center......didn't ask for any of my information. So I am like okay.....still waiting for the hook. Nothing......I did manage to ask if he needed to look at the truck and he said no........he would be sending a tow truck to pick it up in a couple of days......I am a little confused to tell you the truth.

Now, I am off guard and don't really know what to think. Any advice would be appreciated.

Yes, I see major warning lights. Why not just show up with cash and a towtruck?

I forgot where in NC are you? I'm in Jacksonville, NC. Best of luck with the truck, Mike.

pretty simple to solve, once the cash is in your hand, the truck is his, not before, no check, no bank, or debet card nothing, if he wants to send wal mart money card fine as long as you cash out before he gets the truck.

there is a scam going arround where people are buying stuff long distance, they send a wal mart card you check it out hey it has $2000 on it. you send the item, they take the secound (duplicate card and with draw the cash. so if you get a walie card from some one else imediatly cash out and get a new one.

Smells like a SCAM to me, I would tell the guy cash only. I would run away from this deal.

It seems strange, because he is offering to send money through Wal Mart money center (pick up the cash at wal mart) and then send a tow truck out a few days later to pick up the truck. I just don't handle "new way" of doing things sometimes.

I am going to see how it goes tomorrow and let you all know how it goes........I going olddude on this one........but I am keeping the listing on craigslist and first one with the cash gets it.

    Thanks everyone

I have received cash this way. It could be legit. The guy has to give you the "number" you write it down, take it to wally cash center, and boffo-presto
I have done this for about 3,500.00....................

Could be legit. Even if by some chance it's a scam, if wal mart gives you cash when they weren't supposed to for some reason, that's between wal mart and the scammer. I think you would have what's called "plausable deniability."

    Walmart $$ is legit

Walmart is ok its like a money gram I send $ to my son in AZ this way all the time. That is exactly the way it works I get a # when I send it and have to call him with it so he can pick it up. Maybe the guy is handicapped in some way and can't come get the truck himself.

Then there's the tow truck, you'll get the money but the tow truck driver will want you to pay for his services before he takes the truck. He wont tell you this until he gets the truck on his truck, and for him to unhook there will be a fee or he will just take your truck to his impound yard, charge you storage fee's and you will be out money.

Then the "buyer" will sue you for not delivering the vehicle that he paid for. And what about the title, how are you going to transfer it?

So many ways to get screwed on this deal.

To make the transfer you will need to give your info. This is a scam. He is not after the truck!

Sounds like it could be a version of the Nigerian Western Union scams. Do a quick search on them. I have had it attempted a few times.

Two different people tried something similar for a tv i was sellong. They were going to send me a money order "from walmart" then have a delivery truck pick it up later. i would , have ended up cashing a fake money order AND paying the delivery fees! I had this posted on CL in Indiana and they wanted it in UTAH! I found several tv on CL in Utah , sent him a link and told him to "screw off douchebag"..........the other one I just ignored.

Thanks everyone, but nothing happened......he didn't call back, so I will leave it at that and wait for someone to come with cash in hand.
