Looking for an old laptop that works, Windows xp sp3

A friend of mine needs a laptop that operates with windows xp sp3. He plays Diablo 4 game and it doesn't work with any newer version of windows.

I don't play games and and all my scrap laptops are scrap. My friend is not tech knowledgeable at all.

So if you have a suitable laptop and can part with it for a very reasonable price let me know. 73, Mike

It might be a hard find. That's pretty old for a laptop. There would be a lot of data corruption in the OS installed on the hard drive after ten years sitting in a closet somewhere.

I've seen free downloads of various windows operating systems out of India before.

It's a longshot, but it might be possible to do a fresh install of Xp sp3 on something a bit newer.

That might be so. I did buy a new copy of xp with sp3 marked as 'refurbish" and came with the new license for it.

Unfortunately all the junk laptops I have either I don't have the power supply or the cd/dvd player doesn't work.

I may fire up an old window 10 tower I have and attempt to copy xd sp3 refurb disk on to a thumb drive and see it that would work.

It's been a few years since I've done this type of work and a real long time since dealing with xp which I never liked.

Thank you for the input. 73, Mike

You can load windows XP on to a lot of machines like dual core era.... problem is the drivers and hooking to the net to get any updates

Well, it is tough one. I stopped to use Win 7 on my oldest machine last week. Win 10 pro is my older OS now. Win 7 still ran well, but it was less and less supported and then hardware died on me. Maybe if he can try to run it as a virtual machine, it can work, but no guarantee. I usually heard that for people who wanna run Linux on Windows, not older Windows versions.
NEW TO SCRAPPING? READ THIS: Build up your horde of magnetic and non-magnetic metals in two piles until you have a better understanding of the business. Magnetic material has low value and is mostly always steel / shred / short iron. Read old threads about non-magnetic metals and ewaste (and how to sort them), but don't forget that they generally have absolutely no tolerance for contamination (screw / iron / foreign material).

It's a good thought. Found a link on how xp can be run within the win 10 environment.

Miked, I just scrapped a few old Win XP laptops a few weeks ago. Does the laptop need to connect to the internet or will the game be loaded and played without an internet connection.
I now nothing about games anymore but the old phone systems I program require Win XP to connect to it. I cannot run Win XP within a Win 10 environment or on a virtual machine so I have an old laptop and I really need a backup. I get old working laptops often and will keep an eye out. I have the XP SP3 software also. An IT friend gave me a disk years ago and said it was an enterprise edition and could be loaded as many times as I wanted.

Yep just with the disk for the game not on the internet. The laptop he gave me to try on has a bad disk drive. let me know if you make this happen. 73, Mike
