That said, this is as far as I am going to chase this down this rabbit hole. One of the rules that helps keep this board a refuge from the rest of the world is the no politics rule. Doesn't matter what either one of us thinks, it is not going to change a phuckin' thing.

Things ebb and flow and stuff like restaurants (well ones that couldn't adapt, some of the take places by me are still super busy) and retail/travel industry have been crushed, other industries have been thriving like never before. In America, there is always opportunity, even now, and capitalism always finds a way to work.
That has more to do with economics K.

I was self employed in the carpentry trade for many years. The Dubya years were great for me. Those were the glory days however his economic policies overheated the economy and caused the crash of 07-08.

The Obama years were dark days. Not only were they not helping ... i felt that the dems were actively working against me. They don't like self employed people. I finally said the heck with it. There's a term called "Gone Galt". It's an important concept to understand for anyone who would seek to better themselves through independence and hard work.

Anyway ... Trump economics have been very good for the construction industry. I'm retired from the trade but the guys still in the game are doing very well.

That won't hold for very much longer.

Well ... i think it would be more accurate to say that turmoil and chaos create opportunities ... not necessarily profit. Money is all good and well, but power is better. What you do is play both ends against the middle. Get the two sides locked in a bitter feud ... then go in and bury the survivors after the battle has ended. Divide and conquer !

Business is a metaphor for war .... you see ?

It's done all the time in fishing and construction crews. You got the Captain of the boat. He's the boss. He makes sure to keep his deck hands set against one another and competing for a better position on the boat. They're so busy fighting amongst themselves ... they are never a challenge to his position of leadership & authority.

~ It's a rather nasty way of doing business but it does work. ~

Look ... i know that a lot of folks wouldn't put much stock in reading but there was a book written back in 89 that pretty well details out how it all works. It's fairly well respected. It's called:

" Strategy of the Dolphin: Scoring a Win in a Chaotic World."

Opportunities to gain knowledge can give you a competitive edge in business.

    Happy News Years to everyone.

I love reading different perspectives and opinions, it either forces me to rethink my beliefs or helps defend them. I cannot defend the current administration, but I will defend the benefits our country has received because of it. Without focusing on politics, let's focus on the problem. Regardless of your views, our media is manipulating everything in our society. The question is who controls the media?

In Washington, it is do as I say, not as I do.

I do not care if you are conservative or liberal, extreme or in between, it is time to do the next right thing. I do not think following Washington (media) is the next right thing. I am not advocating anything except think for yourself, and think about your family, your neighbors, and the country. Then decide a direction to pursue. If every citizen did this, America will be stronger when we emerge.

Here is to America in 2021.

I know some of you will see the video, sigh and ask why? To be honest, it reminds me of my father who passed away in 1997. He loved the Clint Eastwood movies and I do too.

I learned a lot from him and I'm grateful for that. Growing up I don't ever remember anyone coming to the house to fix something. He did it and most of the time I was there watching and learning.

He had a good job but was always able to make extra money cutting grass and other things neighbors needed done to provide for us. My mother did the same and I helped her also.

This past year has been a hard one and the holidays make it harder especially when loved ones are gone. You have to keep going though.

We had a nice Christmas thanks to the scrap. I didn't hear much from many of my contacts and wasn't calling them either because it's been so crazy at work.

I lost one good pickup from a regular and after that I started calling all of my contacts and things got real busy. Keep in touch with your contacts!

Well I hope everyone has a happy new year. Stay safe and enjoy the music.

I've always enjoyed the "spaghetti westerns". Clint was great and the Trinity movies are another great watch. I know Clint wasn't in those, but they are a lot like Clint with a smile

It's a confused situation. The media is of concern, but they can be dealt with. Most media outlets are biased in some way. You can use calm reasoned arguments to crack them open and expose them for their true colors. This creates doubt in their minds and causes a division in their ranks. Worst thing in the world for em' when people start to think for themselves. It becomes like herding cats.

This next part is weird and not the way that most people look at things: I studied and played chess for many years. One of the most valuable takeaways for me was that i was intellectually outclassed. Good enough for some things but i rarely scored a win against a Grandmaster. Those guys were a nightmare. They could play any position and almost always come out the winner. You could even switch sides halfway through the match and they would pound you into the ground with your own pieces ... they were just that good !

It goes back to what i was saying before about playing both sides against one another. Doesn't matter what side the Grandmasters of the game are playing for. They can play for either side, even switch sides if it suits them, and they will almost always come out ahead.

The media is one concern but that is political. Economics are another concern and economics are not political. Economics are simply economics. He who controls the purse strings holds the power over just about everything.

I would look at Jerome Powell as chair of the Federal Reserve. He's the one most responsible for the state of our economy in recent years. He was hired on during the Obama administration and continued through the Trump administration. Consideration is underway to re-appoint Janet Yellen to his position. This an interesting story, but not something that most people would think of taking a look at.

It's kinda like taking a peek behind the curtain in the Wizard of Oz story. It's all right there to see for anyone who would care to take a look.

Jerome Powell is an interesting guy with an interesting history. Maybe start there ?

Not much affected but still thinking for safety. I stuck myself at my home and I only go up when I need to do a grocery or walking with my dog. facemask & alcohol is with me as I walk around. I don't think this year will be a better one because of the new covid strain that has been found recently but I hope that all people in the world will follow & apply the safety rules.

Your wish will not be fully granted because there are too many hardheaded people out there who still want to slack themselves without worrying about the consequence that they can get by it.

Respect and responsibility should guide everyone's decisions, not fear or the government. These are two words we seldom hear about on a daily basis, but they were the values many of our parents grew up with.

We try not to force anyone to look into the sun when visiting outdoors. The virus has added a new variable, try to keep a cross wind between you and those you are visiting. This has created a new social etiquette called the pandemic waltz as people move to meet the new social criteria. So when the government said we should mask up outside, we decided to dance. This is meant as humor, not a political statement.
