I had cut hundreds of tanks using the plasma torch, any gas present burns on the outside just like a Bic lighter. No gas in this tank just a huge accumulation of the oily residue that puts the oder in the gas.
The hot metal from the cut ignited the residue, next time I'll tuck my beard inside my jacket.

I had a few compressors from air conditioning units ignite like that before. I had thought maybe the smoke/vapor from burning plastic ignited. Whatever the reason, it always made me jump.
I saw a friend's price sheet from Schnitzer yesterday. Compressors $0.20/lob, motors $0.23/lb. Definitely no reason to cut those up anymore.

No go on the case tractor, so I kept looking and found this Minneapolis Moline diesel, this tractor has both a PTO and belt pulley to drive implements like my Gehl corn chopper to shred branches for distilling oils.
The hammer mill is PTO driven, now with more power I can feed it heavier loads.

At the moment still fighting my impulsive nature to buy every old tractor that I find, fortunately not everyone is agreeable to selling. The price has been negotiated, I have the funds but want to check put a few things before laying out out the cash.
This tractor has sat for several years the exhaust has been covered but from research have learned that this particular type of injection pump has a habit of seizing up. Easy enough for a home repair but if the pump had been seized previously and someone had tried to start the engine then the internals of the pump could be seriously damaged. The price of the tractor is a bit high but bearable if it can be had running with a minimal of expense.
The tractor weighs 6,000 pounds at $700.00 slightly above scrap value, i don't want or need more junk, already have plenty of yard art.
If the injection pump is free to turn over then I'll complete the purchase.
Not a good idea to cut compressors open there's usually enough freon in the oil that when it comes into contact with a flame phosphine gas is created - nerve gas WWI.Quote:

Phosgene Exposure
Definition
Phosgene is a chemical used in plastics and pesticides. It can also be made when chemicals with chlorine are broken down or burned. Phosgene exposure can happen when someone comes in contact with gas, liquid, or food that is contaminated with it.
Causes
People can be exposed by:
- Breathing air that has phosgene—phosgene is a gas at 68° Fahrenheit (20° Celsius)
- Liquid phosgene or water that has phosgene and touches the skin or eyes
- Eating foods or drinking water has liquid phosgene

This problem is more common in people who are near sources of phosgene, such as:
- Plastic and chemical plants
- Paint stripping
- Dry cleaning
- Fires fueled by plastic
- Use of solvents that have chlorine
- Metal cleaning
- Welding
- Industrial accidents
- Bioterrorism
Symptoms
The health problems from this will depend on how much phosgene was taken in and for how long. It also depends on the parts of the body that were harmed. Sometimes, lasting damage to tissue or death can happen.
The most common exposure is by breathing the gas. At first, it may only cause minor eye or throat problems. But problems tend to worsen and reappear over 48 hours.
Breathing problems are:
- Coughing
- Trouble breathing
- Choking
- Tightness in the chest
- Coughing up fluid that is pink in color
Skin problems are:
- Burning pain
- Swelling
- Blisters
Eye problems are watering or bleeding.
Common problems are headache, nausea, and vomiting.
Diagnosis
The doctor will ask about your symptoms and health history. You will also be asked about your exposure to any chemicals. A physical exam will be done. A skin or eye exam may also be done.
Pictures may be taken of the lungs and the structures around it. This can be done with:
Treatment
There is no cure. Avoiding sources of phosgene may improve symptoms.
The goal of treatment is to manage symptoms. Choices are:
- Monitoring for health problems
- Supportive care, such as oxygen or help with breathing
Prevention
To lower the risk of this problem:
- Avoid sources of phosgene
- Wear a mask or respirator on the job
- Work in well-ventilated areas

Not more than a week ago I had called out IamtheGreatest for his lack of being a team player and the conversation ended up in a spat. I'll admit it was rather unfair of me to initiate the verbal attack but the whole thing boils down to how I feel in general about the whole forum.
When a noob asks a question their told to research old threads, most dont know their arse from a hole in the ground much less were the search button is and if they did are at a loose as to what search terms scrappers use. For instance what the heck is a curbo shopper.
For what it would take for a seasoned member to do a search then add the relevant links into the noob's post without prejudice, the noob would soon fit right in with this bunch of misfits who belong to this forum we call home.
The other benefits of searching older threads for noobs is that you might re-read some of that older information. Anyhow 2021 is going to be a year without forums for me, I'm cutting the wire.
