You Might Be a Scrapper If......

Lets have a little fun and pay homage to the immortal Jeff Foxworthy.....

You Might Be a Scrapper If.....

    1. While in church you find yourself mentally calculating the scrap value of the pipe organ's brass tubes

    2. Viewing the Statue of Liberty makes your heart skip a beat (its made of copper)

    3. If you have more insurance on your truck than you do your spouse

    4. If you use duct tape and paper towels for band-aids

    5. If you have ever punished one of your children for throwing away their pop can

    6. If your spouse has ever accused you of being more in love with your sawzall than you are with them

    7. If you have ever been late to a special event (wedding, funeral, birth of child) because Sears was holding a tool sale

    8. If you can recall every piece of copper you have ever scrapped but often forget how many children you have

If everythig you pass at work causes the thought , "look at the electric motor on that", to go through your head......you might be a scrapper.

If the Romax you use for tying down ladders is also considered emergency lunch money.

If you go to flea markets or garage sales and buy items for scrap. I went to an old man garage sale and bought 20lbs of copper pipe for $3.50!

If you're in the shop fabricating something, and you're thinking more about the scrapping the cut-offs than you are about the project.

(Found myself doing that a few weeks ago. I was building some shelf supports out of 1x1 angle, and from making bevels on the ends, ended up with a couple dozen little 1" triangles. And I'm thinking, "Mmmm, scrap!")

If, when you buy something and you are more excited knowing that you'll get to scrap it later on than you are getting to actually use it........... you might be a scrapper
You buy things based on the scrap value that you know you'll get when it's life is over........ you might be a scrapper.
If your idea of a family vacation is spending time away from work looking for scrap and taking the whole family to the scrap yard............
If your idea of gambling is betting your friends you can "find" the money for a lawnmower before they can............
If your first thought when obtaining gold is "I wonder how much the scrap yard will pay me for this"............
If you get turned on when your wife says the words "scrap yard".........
If you go on walks to spend time with the wife and you make her carry the bags so you can pick up cans instead of holding her hand...........
If you've ever taken medals won at the special olympics hoping they were brass...............
If you've ever bought a new dishwasher just too scrap out the old one b/c "I've never scrapped a dishwasher before" and not b/c it was broke....................
If you've ever met someone in a wheelchair and all you can talk to him about is what his chair is made of................

You have a magnet in or on every vehicle, on every workbench and a couple put back - "just in case".
You check LME prices every morning.
They know by your first name at the "yard".
You carry the yard's price list around.
Your spouse actually knows what #1 Iron is.
You want a Sawzall or grinder for your birthday.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

Don't forget to keep magnets on all trailers, tractors, etc. as well!

Some of everyone's responses are funny, but I am guilty on most counts

2 of the scrap yard owners, their counter guy and 2 of the yard men know me on a first name basis, and the magnet operator and 3 more yard guys know my face.......

Also, you might be a scrapper if you drool at all the stainless steel in restaurants and don't forget the brass fire dept hookups outside outside malls, sky scrapers and apartment buildings........ as well as any type of steel structures such as a bridge.

    lol

    haha. Funny responses.

I did a Renaissance Faire over the weekend, and on the way there noticed the highway had done work detail. Orange trash bags on the road ever so often. I got to day dreaming about what they might contain...likely numerous aluminum cans, maybe a few car parts. etc. Noticed on one bag a twisted road sign.

If I would have had time I would have stopped.

Did snag a few cans out of the trash at the Faire....then on the way out daydreamed what the huge roll off dumpster might contain.

You might be a scrapper if:

-every time you pass a roll off dumpster from your local yard, you think "I wish I had that much metal"

-you take the long way home on trash night just to look for scrap

-you get excited when a mechanic says your car is beyond repair because that means you get to scrap it

-your idea of spending time outside is sitting in your driveway tearing apart appliances
There's nothing more fun and more effective than hitting something repeatedly with a sledgehammer
