What's New? << NOT working correctly and no answer to trouble / support tickets

I had looked into this problem several moths ago >> AND opened a Support ticket
There was another thread on the subject >> BUT that seems to have disappeared
Can still be found in search box >> Top right >> But links look to be dead

The problem is the What's New? Button is not working

Is Admin aware of the problem? and what is being done about the problem?
Thanks to any and all that might be able to supply an answer

A couple of suggestions that might help with what's new.

Download CCleaner ( free version ) and run it to clear the cache after every browsing session. Run it to fix any registry errors you might have on your machine. Set CCleaner to delete all log in passwords. It's a good idea not to store any passwords on your machine. There's always a risk of being hacked and having your identity stolen.

Try tinkering with the forum a little bit. Come here as a guest with an empty cache. Browse through the threads that are of interest to you. Only log in if you want to respond to a thread.

I can see what you're saying though. The forum does display differently depending upon whether you're logged in or not.

Can't really comment on the adminimum issue. Never had the need to file a support ticket.

    This happens a lot.

    It's a known issue.

The forum will apparently never be fixed so that this does not happen.

The only way to fix it is to clear your browser cache and cookies and reboot your computer.

No you will never get a response to this from support.

No you will never even have your support ticket acknowledged regarding this issue.

Yes it sucks to have to manipulate YOUR computer to help a website work properly, but that's how SMF rolls.

    Hope this helps.

    KTHXBAI

EDIT*** I see that you too are a scrap metal forum member. Please allow me to modify the line above to read:

Yes it sucks to have to manipulate YOUR computer to help a website THAT YOU PAID GOOD MONEY TO JOIN work properly, but that's how SMF rolls.

John, you are NOT alone. I am a new member here in Central Florida. A few months ago, I found this Scrap Metal Forum by accident while googling how to scrap dehumidifiers. A couple weeks ago, I again tripped upon this forum while doing research on refrigerants. This time I took some time to read some of the threads and decided to join with a "lifetime membership". Well, just like you I began to have a couple questions that I could not search out the answers, nor did any "Welcome New Member links" specifically address. I tried to follow new member orientation thread suggestions. I did introduce myself in the New Member thread as well. I attempted multiple topic and forum searches for issues I was experiencing, and then I finally created a SCRAP METAL FORUM - NEW SUPPORT TICKET. One would assume that providing one's email AND phone number, would result in SOME RESPONSE within a day or two. "Will respond to you shortly" is both ambiguous and subjective right?? After four days WITHOUT ANY RESPONSE, I created another NEW Ticket regarding another issue I was having. I found that I was still not able to post an ad to the Scrap Buyers and Sellers Thread?? I later discovered that Scrap Metal Forum either DOES NOT ACTUALLY HAVE a "SMF Member Map" as indicated at the top of the page OR I was simply not privy to see what new members were near me?! I have found additional discrepancies on this Forum that seem to contradict "the wonderful benefits" of a paid membership. TO DATE, I HAVE 3 OPEN SUPPORT TICKETS and two additonal Support Tickets complaining that none of my original three have been responded too. Have they been read???????? Who even knows??? I have attempted to reach out and send Private Messages to thread Administrators. NO RESPONSE. I've gone through a number of basic steps such as checking Spam email, logging off the web site, clearing cache but that's where it'll end for me. Like others here, I am a busy man who has his own work, family, home responsibilities. There's only so much time that one need invest into any endeavor before making the determination that other's are simply NOT willing, NOT capable, or worse - simply exploiting others' time and money. I am very understanding and very patient. Simply tell me that "you're working on it" or apologize for the delay.... it's cool (s)crap happens, I get it. On the other hand, following a week of zero replies along with ZERO direct live contact support to speak this is beginning to leave me feeling very suspicious. I do not not know whether NOT WILLING, NOT CAPABLE, or just simple Exploitation applies here but as patient a person that I am, I DO NOT LIKE to feel ripped off, patronized, or simply ignored.

Welcome Chaser1 to the Forum >> Sorry it no longer works as advertised and seems to no longer have any support

There are a couple threads on here about Sellers getting ripped off by Buyers >>
I wonder if the time has come to start a new thread about not getting what we paid for on this Forum?

Works for me on Chrome and Firefox. Did they just fix it or is there a problem with a few people's browsers etc... ? If they feel it isn't an issue with the forum itself, but rather you have a problem with your browser and it's settings, or something else with your computer - they might just ignore it because they either don't know how or don't want to troubleshoot your computer and/or browser. Not good customer service to just not respond especially to paying members like us.

To the people this isn't working for, what browser are you using and what is it's version? Is your browser set to defaults? What type of AV are you running if any? What add-ons do you have enabled in your browser?

In my experience with dealing with this issue multiple times, Dont double click the whats new button. Thats what messes up my situation.... It clears itself after a week or two. Mean while I just scroll down to the recent forum post section.

So you opened a ticket, and got no response and then waited 48 days and then asked for an update?

Maybe if the ones having trouble would ask for an update every day, it might get someones attention.

The issues with the "what's new" button and lack of responses to support tickets are not new. I am not a computer guru, but have followed the advice of others and still have issues. To access the new posts the best advice given is to sign in as a guest. Mick, Mechanic, and Parrothead held the forum together for many years and for their efforts I am grateful.

I am willing to accept the imperfections of our forum because of the amount of knowledge it has provided to many individuals over the years. As we continue to share our insights, it's value will continue to increase to those that stay around. The membership fee has paid for itself many times over in my case and I am sure many others would agree. If we want to cure our concerns, it will take volunteers. Although the administration has not responded to many posts on this subject, it is assumed they would appreciate those with the skills stepping up to the challenge.
Give back more to this world than we take.

Yea...what Patriot said. An like him...my one time payment, has been paid back to me many times over thanks to the info, buyers, an folks of this forum. Small price for all the knowledge I've gained, and used from here for the last 6 years. I could have gotten it all free but eh, whatever, I've made my fee back many times over.

Like SKWrapper...I use Firefox. While I've had issues in the past, I've not had any for a good long while.

I know it's annoying when it happens. I've had the same issues in the past.

Anyhow....back to trying to hack Santa's database. It seems he has me on the naughty list.

Is there still an Admin that glances at the page even occasionally?
Is there any support when there is a problem?

I replied to one of your posts and made some suggestions on Snowmans thread back in October on different ways to contact someone. I even gave the names of the current administrators and moderators. Did you try that?

Would you be willing to provide the information again. I must have missed it and did not know we had new moderators. A few posts have been deleted ,but do not know by whom. I would retract my recommendation for volunteers, if we have someone in charge. Thanks.

There is someone watching but I assume they don't consider this a major issue....stuff works for me pretty well on a decent desktop but some features not as well on cheap android phone but I am posting on cheap phone right now.....as others have stated the first time I used the buyers forum and sold some stuff I made back cost of membership

I am a new paid member using an updated version of Chrome. I'm not a computer tech nor will I spend further time chasing down rabbit holes for solutions why I am having issues with Administrators not responding to a PAID CUSTOMER regarding features on this site that are either false or not managed. I still cannot post an ad to the "Buyers and Sellers Forum". I still cannot see the Member Map. I am unable to sign up for any Scrap Metal Newsletter. No one has acknowledged the five New New Tickets that I have submitted over the past 10 days. AS FAR AS I CAN SEE, THERE ARE NO ADMINISTRATORS WHATSOEVER. I am glad for those who have reaped past benefit from this web site/forum however at this point I would highly recommend to others finding this website for the first time, to NOT invest any money toward membership. Jimicrk, I would greatly appreciate your reposting those names of current administrators and moderators so that I may attempt to reach them via Private Message. The couple that I have attempted to reach, have not responded.

I never have really used the button until I saw this thread, but it works every time for me.

If someone is having issues with not being able to post in the section of the forum they paid to have access to, that's a completely different story than someone's web browser, router or ISP using cached information etc...

It's holiday season so maybe this has something to do with it? Still not OK but, as one of three moderators on an enthusiast car forum I can tell you that I don't monitor 24/7 365, but I do communicate to the other mods when I am not going to be checking in for an extended period of time.

I concur that it is fully understandable for one to be dealing with a medical issue, go on a cruise, or just be busy for a number of days. In such case however, why not simply set up some simple "auto-respond" message that Customer Support will be down for particular dates. At least some message of reason can be applied rather then the appearance of simply ignoring or not caring. New open tickets might be a rarity and i'm sure old members might well know the ebb and flow of this site and/or communication. But for a new member who has just paid for a "lifetime membership", it should not be unreasonable to ask for a response when access to promised features are not provided. As a side note, I thought it was only fair and appropriate to update my prior post here however. A second attempt to load an ad on the Buyers & Sellers Forum HAS apparently worked. My 5 open Support tickets remain unanswered however I am thankful for the ghost of Christmas present for assisting (or approving) me for that particular function.
