Using Vague Titles When Starting New Threads

I'm sure that many here understand this and are doing things properly, but in the interest of being efficient (not to pick on any one person) I have a polite request to make...

Please don't use a Title such as:

    • I Have A Question
    • Something to Think About

Instead, it would be helpful if you could use something more specific (but brief) such as:

    • Your Thoughts About Separating eWaste
    • Winter Scrapping in the Cold Country
    • Avoiding Injuries when using Power Tools
    • Types of Wire I like to Strip and Why

Look at the second group of titles compared to the first one. When you see the title, you know basically what the posting is about without going any further.

Again, I'm not trying to be difficult, but there is a LOT of information on this great site. For someone trying to go through it in a fairly efficient manner, vague titles cause the reader to waste a lot of time. Sometimes, just proofreading your posting before sending it and asking "What would I think if I read this?" will do the trick.

I hope I explained this properly without causing a thousand people to give me the finger. Thanks in advance for helping to improve the content of this fantastic place.

    [QUOTE=hobo finds;290073]How about this...

Dang Hobo, 78 at one time? That's at least a forum record and possibly a world record.

Recyclersteve. I think that's a great idea. It would definitely help when using the search engine.

I've been reading your posts and it's good to see someone digging through the archives. There's a lot of good information in there.

The forum search engine does not allow you to search by an articles contents nor will it allow you to search using quoted text. I think your best bet using forum sub categories.

recyclersteve - Your request is reasonable, helpful, and common courtesy. Anyone that has a problem with this request does not have enough to do and maybe needs to get back to work scrapping. Some of the best information on the forum is found inside threads with misleading titles. Thank you for the request.

One function of the advanced search feature is the box ""Search entire posts". This will list and highlight any threads with the search word in them. This can be time consuming as well, but helps a little.
Give back more to this world than we take.
