    Crypto Mining

I wanted to start this thread to see if any SMF members have done mining for crypto-currency. I'm not looking for a discussion on whether its good or bad, or the history of bitcoin. Instead, I'm looking at my warehouse full of used IT equipment and figuring out a way to piece some of it together to do some mining. My thoughts are that it will only take some of my time and a slightly higher electric bill to run a system. I have some "high end" gear, such as 2gb and up video cards, and servers/computers are plentiful. Anyone else been in this spot and decided to give it a try? Have you had much success? Any tips or pointers for someone wanting to dip their toe in the crypto pond with little investment?

Ya, I read that but it dealt more with investing and the history of bitcoin, etc. Hoping someone on here has actually done a setup using spare parts from equipment. I'm doing a setup now to try it out. Would post pictures but in the many years since I joined I still havent figured out how to post pictures easily

Go to the last page of that thread. AGW gets into some pretty technical stuff. I don't know if it's totally relevant to your curiosity but it is illuminating.

True that! I went back and looked at the relevant posts on that thread. Some of it is way over my head, but giving it a shot anyway. Thanks!

Those rigs need to run 24/7 and will raise your electric bill a lot more than 'slightly' depending on how much you want to mine.
