    "... as a result of a casualty claim ... " I'm not familiar with this term. I know that steel mills can be dangerous but that doesn't sound good.

    That's due to being in the middle of an insurance claim. Probably due to being rolled with a bad measurement when made. that's a lot of pieces to have screwed up.

    Even at .10/lb that lot is worth less in scrap than the opening bid. I am surprised the company that produced it cannot use it as feedstock for more rail.

    it maybe off spec chemically
    a mill making forged pieces may not be able to actually melt material (they start with billet and only heat it to forging heat)
    even if they can melt it, it will have to get cut into 36 or 48 inch lengths to go into the charge box

    the opening bid is $200/short ton give or take for rounding is actually a fail deal if they are an alloy tool steel,I cannot find anything on the alloy mentioned
    : save for two huge problems. you got to transport them, and they have to be cut, and they are too big to shear
    so you have a heavy torch project :-(
