    Another Storm Approaching

I didn't hear how folks in Florida made out, but there's quite a storm heading up the east coast from there now. No offence to my brothers and sisters on the forum who deal with the fires to the far west and the floods and storms in the central part of the country, I send prayers to you all but only know where you are in a general sense. This particular storm looks to have the sandbar in its sights, so I'm just telling our friend there to keep his head down and protect the cooler.

Supposed to hit sandbar late tomorrow night, or Friday am.

Lots of rain, some wind (woosh! wooOSH!)

The cooler will be stocked, the dogs and I will chill out at home, or head up to the wife's hotel if it's goes up to a cat 2(right now saying cat 1, thats a strong thunerstorm!)

Now pardon me, I have to go prep my back up coolers. An stock up on food that is bad for you.

    Thanks for the thoughts!

Internet stays up like has in years past, maybe I'll do a special hurricane quote thread update!

Those idiots on the weatherchannel got nothing on me.

Sandy was "only" a Cat 1 when it hit here in NY a couple years ago and that was no joke. Stay safe, Sir!

This is a random thought, but… we have tornadoes (but all storms, natural disasters have their own fury), here and it occured to me, our garage is not safe anymore. All the scrap metals and such would be quite dangerous flying thru the air. Even w/safety hats on, the netal shards could be lethal- basically shrapnel (wrong spelling)!

But can't not do something today for fear of what might happen tomorrow.

Thanks for posting and thinking about fellow SMF scrappers! Group hug!

Scrapme - I lived in Tuscaloosa for six years and I will say that all y'all can get some weather for sure in AL. I hadn't thought of the flying debris threat, and while we can't turn all of our garages into bunkers necessarily, I take this as a prompt to clean up clutter and keep stuff neat and out from underfoot at least.

I welcome anything wet from the sky asap . It was 95 yest. Has to be higher today . Air is so thick I can't work in the garage for more than 15 min without pouring sweat . It has cooled in the evenings , so my plan is to work on breakdown and sorting after the sun has set . I don't mind driving around in the cool ac to make pick ups during the day . I don't have to tell sir scrap but stay hydrated everyone !

Only category 1 storm I worry about is one that stays over us for a week, and comes up the sound side. Otherwise, yes for me, it's just a big thunderstorm with lots of wind.

Cat 2 an up, I then allow worry.

Being as I live on a sandbar an go through this several times a year..I respect the storms, an do I can to be safe, but I've been through plenty of cat 3's an 4's. So 1 is a thunderstorm for me.

As for Sandy..The areas that got destroyed up north, are also not used to the weather we deal with down here on the sandbar. Hence why they got gobsmacked. Totally different infrastructure and it really sucks they suffered so much. The folks on the north atlantic coast get blizzards, an nor'easters, not hurricanes. Usually their down graded to right above a tropical storm before it gets anywhere close to land. Sandy was a right mean *****. Heh. What damage she did down here was cause she came up sound side, had nothing to do with the category. If it comes up the ocean, the hotels, an housing there buffer the inner part of the sandbar. If it comes up the sound side, it can do like sandy an stay over the sound, or can ride right up the middle of the sandbar pulling power from the ocean and sound. That's very rare an if that happens, don't expect to hear from me anytime soon, as my entire sandbar will be down.

So yes, I choose to take it lightly while still respecting it. If I didn't I'd go crazy an sound like those morons on the weather channel everytime a storm approaches. "The end days are nigh'! The hurricane is up on us! Repent repent!" - Weather channel during ANY storm.

I thank you all for the well wishes, an assure you I'll be safe. I don't leave the sandbar due to my wife's work(AGM for a hotel, for you newbies) so even if they evacuate I get the fun of staying! On the bright side, i then get to go kick it an take it easy at the hotel, an do nothing but harass my dogs an bug my wife.

For those in the path, but not used to this kind of weather...be careful, prep your house right, keep a good supply of foodstuffs/drinks that won't go bad, an make the best of it. Worry just begets more worry an stress sucks anytime, especially in the middle of a hurricane.

From a soon be drenched sandbar off the coast of NC...
