what pray tell is a packy? I'm picturing a train of pack mules winding it's way through Cape Cod. Amusing, but I somehow don't think that's what you mean.

Is is this another pop/soda thing? Some strange thing you all call grocery stores in the NE?

    I"M CONFUSED!

    I'm guessing it's a package store.

Murphy I hope you got a better answer, cause I feel letdown if what Mech says is so!

Up here they call a liquor store a package store cause you go in and come out with a package in a paper sack. Usually a 6 or 12 pack.

    tomato, tomatoe.

Your all weird. It's a liquor store! An it's coke or pepsi, not pop or soda!

/off to cause a riot in the midwest by asking for a soda, or is it pop...aaarrggh.

    Edit: Thanks for answering Mech!

We moved from the Twin Cities to OKC when I was in high school and talk about culture shock. One thing was how booze was sold...all stores had the same generic sign and you couldn't buy cold strong beer. Only way you could get a drink was to belong to a club...so to get around that the restaurants would charge you a buck to join their exclusive club. That was a long time ago and things are different now.

Sorry, Sirscrap. I don't have a better answer. Mech nailed it. And you are right, it's not soda or pop. It's tonic. For a quick Boston vocabulary lesson and a reference to the term "packy", I suggest you google "The real housewives of South Boston."

    Tonight's selection: Hoegaarden wit-blanche.

It's a Belgian wheat beer with a small kick of spices (coriander and orange peel taste) with a 4.9% alc/volume. I give it 7.5. If you like Blue moon you may like this one.

NHscrapman Just curious in New Hampshire does the state still run and control all alcohol sales? It's been years since I was up that way, but last time I was there, the only place you could buy was package store operated by state of New Hampshire. Just curious as I have always found it amazing of the various ways alcohol is sold from one state to the next.

Not all alcohol sales beer and wine are sold everywhere, the liquor is a state owned store only, but there is one in every town open seven days a week
The term here is "liquor store" (lick-eah stoo-ah)

NHscrapman thanks for refreshing my memory, that's correct as we were heading to a party in Mass. we stopped to get the real stuff. As I recall it would not be as cheap as N. H. state operated liquor store. My memory was it was a fairly large store, with a large selection of alcohol and operated by the state. Been in most of the country and don't recall anyplace else where the state sold the good stuff! That's probably a good way in a small state.
