Why people still burn toxic waste like this? I makes me so angry.

hell - people burn full open tvs and pick through smashed crts with their bare hands and live and eat food in a dark black smoke cloud.

    - a facility in Edmonton that looks like its recycling the same stuff pretty safely

    - theres even a way to "safely" recycle the crt bulbs

I know my question is mostly answered in the documentary - but it just makes my blood boil that someone would burn 100lbs of plastic instead of recycling it.
And who even wants all that wire burned in gasoline - Theres noone with a chipper in town that buys insulated for $0.75/lb?

In the end its the economy of the country that allows the import of these materials that makes it profitable to ship it there. Much the same a the illegal drug trade. Many of these poor countries are prone to allowing these despicable practices to go on. My travels around the world have shown me that people who can work and provide for their families don't gravitate toward these types of activities. They know these practices are harmful to themselves and their communities but they and their families are hungry today.

Here in the west its been only a decade or so that insulated wire wasn't being burned to recover copper as a normal way to recycle.

Personally I lay a lot of these on going practices to the governments that have ruled their people in a manner that keeps them from owning their own property and labor.

As you get older and experience more look at what systems work and what have repeatedly failed there are trends. Then spend some time looking at history, it really does repeat itself in many ways.

I agree it makes no sense that people would ship wire half way around the world to have someone burn it. Why not hire a couple people and get a wire chopper, perhaps regulations, I am asking I really don't understand.

Keep at it and keep questioning your world its the only one you got. Best of luck Mike.

ps. I was watching the official Chinese TV News channel on DirecTV a couple of nights ago and they were having officials and professors talk about cooperative farms operations. The two most interesting things I heard them say was how the central government had to this or that and the local government had to that or this. Nothing was mentioned about marketing since it all belongs to the government anyway. The second was how the they referred to the farm workers, "PEASANTS". This is a term that was used in Europe a long time ago and I am certain why most of our ancestors came here so they could legally own their own property and labor. Mike

No EPA regulations is why. A lot of these places like Ghana are developing countries that are poor and they do whatever they need to survive. I once watched a documentary about this and they took soil samples but the dismantlers chased them out and took the sample. So in turn they must want this waste b/c that is how they make there living.
