    Winter camping on Motorcycles

Last weekend I took my Sidecar for a 4 day camping trip from Maine to New Hampshire. This is a link to some photos and a video.

It takes a hardy individual to camp in the winter, let a lone the NE!

I did my share in a tent during the winter in KS. Snow, rain and wind..make for fun times in a tent!

    I took the car tho.

Thanks for sharing that, and the bacon looked awesome, I'm betting it tasted the same.

I missed last year. 4 of them went during the Blizzard but 2 of them had tents with wood stoves.

Yea, I need friends of a hardy nature so I can do some more winter camping. When I was out in Az, I did some camping, an the hunters would bring in those big tents with the wood stoves. I was quite jealous with my little cheap tent an a camp fire. lol.

Thanks for sharing tho, I enjoyed the read. An knowing I'm not the only crazy person out there is nice to.

I did enough winter camping in the Army - thank you. I got to sleep inside the tank cause I was the driver. Still COLD. Woke up one morning in Ft Carson, Colo to new snow and all these humps everywhere. Turned out to be the other guys.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

Hopefully you realized it was the other guys, before starting the tank Mick.

Sirscrapalot - Thinking sleeping in a tank, would not be comfortable.

I hate the cold. Not really sure why I live in Canada....

But I gotta tip my hat to you, Imm, you obviously enjoy it. Thanks for sharing!

I tried motorbiking in the colder weather on a smaller dirt bike a long time ago. Even with sheet metal screws in the knobbies, it was too darn dangerous on the pavement. After one time of nearly becoming traction for a pickup I quit that nonsense!

That is why all the bikes have 3 wheels. Most of them are 2WD with a drive shaft going to the sidecar wheel. Mine is the one where I was cleaning the outside of the spark plugs from salt and dirt that was shorting them out. Have been riding year round for the last ten years.

    Imm,
Interesting! 2 wheel drive! Is there a differential or anything to keep the wheels from fighting each other when going around turns? I've heard that most of the sidecars available are Russian built...is that correct? Maybe an aftermarket sidecar? Gads...just think of it...a sidecar on a greasy old Harley!

I've a two wheel drive bike, but its an off-roader--an old Rokon. Interesting, but I found I could go more places with a regular dirt bike.

Mine is a Chang Jiang made in China and only available in 1WD. [A Chinese copy of a Russian copy of a 1938 BMW R71] The other bikes are Russian Ural motorcycles. You only use 2WD in bad conditions because it is a locking rear end.
