The one I frequent is pretty typical. They take very small amounts of concrete, cardboard and plastic, only if it's part of an appliance etc... No fence posts with concrete on them, unless it's pea sized etc... No microwaves unless it's parts with no Magnatron or plastic etc...

I won't deliberately give the yard plastic or concrete - for example if I strip an appliance of copper, wire and aluminum/motors etc..., I will throw away any plastic that comes off that doesn't contain any metal, but I won't go out of my way to strip an appliance just to remove the plastic etc... I think that's reasonable since they take whole appliances. I do cut the ends off low grade wire.

Also they take batteries. 15 cents a lb. for batteries last I checked.

What kind of batteries? If you mean lead acid you're getting ripped off, find a new yard. if you mean alkaline, you are truly blessed.

My yard takes electrical ballasts in the shred pile (no PCB's, of course).

You are right I was getting ripped off!! It was from the "tweaker yard" that's open 7 days a week and open late Monday-Saturday.

I take them now to the yard nearest me that pays much more - for everything - but not open 7 days but instead typical yard hours.

    Still learning this schtuff.

The "tweaker yard" takes ballasts as "scrap" - aka "shred" everywhere else but around my area.
