Well.. Think I got some good info out of this thread. Thanks guys.
Got some parts for the rear-end in and also have some other maintenance stuff that will be done on the truck to keep her running strong and scrapping hard. Trailer is in the shop this week being repaired, next week it will be the Chevy's turn.
In my Volvo I ran Howes all winter.
But, I will admit. I never had any better mpg then 5.1
I'm going too assume you had jelling issues that required you too run a fast acting anti jell.
also that stuff depends on where you live.Where i am at it does go too the single digits and teens alot in the winter.But i dont plug in my truck and i have never had a problem with fuel or less mpgs.
we just mix kerosene in the fuel when it gets that cold. i never plug my truck in unless they are calling for anything colder then -20 or a wicked storm, just in case we have to bug out, i know the oil will at lest be warm i love the grid heater in the cummins. cycle it a couple times and it'll start no problem.
the only time my truck didn't start in the winter was because my second battery froze.
I know a guy that has a 05 cummins has 600k miles on it and just now put a turbo on it.Has never had any trouble out of anything on it
I see, anyone even with a good knowledge of petroleum that far exceeds yours, has to be wrong if they disagree with you. Being in the industry for several years, Ive sold way above 2 million gallons of fuel, so what exprience do you have, sir, that trumps that ?Quote:

Back to diesel vs gas... I sold my 96 power stroke a year ago because I couldn't justify ownership. I have had my 2002 Silverado since I was 18 and I had just bought another 2011Silverado half ton. I never really needed to pull anything heavier than a ski boat. It was an awesome trick and I miss it, but it had a 3.5 gallon oil capacity and everything about it was expensive.
My old 2002 longed ext cab does everything I need it to do.
sledge buy a f250 gas and forget about it if you start auling more cars move to a diesel

I've decided to put the money into making mine better for now. This week I get my leaf pack installed, new front hubs, new fuel pump and filter.. and am looking to get upgraded brake pads specifically designed for trucks who haul trailers. So for now, the 1500 is getting some "love"Quote:

It does suck depending upon your perspective.. I'm one of those "Non-Truck Payment" kind of guys. I could float it out for a bit on a bridge loan of buying an upgrade and selling mine, but I haven't had a truck payment for 7 years and that I LOVE! It appears the market for my 1500 has cooled off. About 2 years ago when I bought mine I couldn't touch one for less than $11-$12K, now people want to offer me $8K or even $5K!! My thought is "Really $5 grand?" I'd rather set the truck on fire than give it to someone- anyone- for a measly $5 grand. I'd much rather just pay cash for what I need and with anyone.. chucking out $12 or $13K for a 2500hd is a pretty sizable amount.Quote:

I don't get too many cars but the car hauler and winch gets put to work for other things. My Ford E150 gets the call 99% of the time but fortunately I have the F250 on standby if need be. What the F250 needs is drum conversion up front and since discs were an option everything appears to be available off the shelf, just need to take the time to do it. After I do I'm sure I will be kicking myself for not making it more of a priority.
I looked and looked for over a year to find the right 1500 with the right set-up and options, as well as what fit into what I wanted to pay. It was well worth it since I paid quite a bit less than any other one out there at the time. So I am patient for "the right deal" As I see it, since I'm not in a "oh crap I have to buy something" I get the luxury of being able to wait to find the right thing at the right time.Quote:
