I have been looking for a tool that crimps eyelets for a new sulfuric stripping cell I designed. I have been having the hardest time finding one that works for 1/4 eyelets. Just 20 years ago you would be able to walk into an Ace Hardware and purchase 3-4 different types of die sets to do exactly this, now the choices are reduced to one.

Walmart, Target and Walgreens all used to carry the tool to crimp 1/4 eyelets, but now, not only do they not carry these, but they don't even sell them on their website.

You know the economy is doing bad when you cannot purchase, even the most simple tools locally.

So, my indication that the economy is doing bad is when you walk into a Walmart, and their tool section has been reduced from 4-5 isles, down to half of one side of one isle. When you realize that Walmart is making the change from selling mostly non consumable items, to consumable grocery items. When they switch from selling things people don't have to have, to things people have to have just to live. As people stop purchased goods, they will still continue to purchase food.

You can tell the economy is doing bad when discount retailers stop carrying common items.

when you are waiting at the drive up coffee cart and somebody jumps in your truck with a pipe b*mb strapped to them and says drive. They've just made a withdrawl from
a bank across the parking lot. This actually happened on Saturday.

Also when people are doing their Christmas shopping by following the UPS truck and picking up packages from porches. If they don't like whats in the package they kick the door in and see whats inside. five doors on one block.

Man, that's just messed up! I guess that's one of the reasons why shipping rates are so high, plus how much diesel fuel is.

The economy is bad when the $163 per month stipend you received as a volunteer English teacher in South America is starting to sound like a decent sum of money.

The "introduce yourself" section on SMF has more traffic than any other section and blasts the forum with noob questions.

You know it is bad when Goodwill and the Salvation Army have extended store hours for Holiday shopping.
There may a million better places to live than Iowa, but none of them are home!

I can relate to that - there's a program NiMo offers to lower your utility bills. We switched over to it and it actually increased our utility bills so we switched back over to regular service.

You know the economy's bad when New York pulls state police off their regular duties an tells them to go patrol a mall because the owner's scared of Syracuse's citizens.

You know the economy's bad when everyone you know has an Obama phone.

You know the econemy's bad when a man takes another man's blocks - I took the wife out for dinner and was gone a half hour. Came home to find 8 cinder blocks missing from the front yard. I'm not talking about the small ones either.

You know what they say: "It's a recession when your neighbor loses his job. It's a depression when you lose yours. When Obama loses his, it's a recovery!"

ChildhoodDream's post says it all. Prices should be good for buyers, but a lot of them can't make enough at it.

I think you can tell a lot about how businesses are doing by the trucks that they run. Out here, they're not replacing them. I know of a few companies that are still running 30 year old trucks. You know the economy's bad when businesses keep the old stuff in service longer.

I work on semi trucks for a living and we sell a lot more use trucks then new. You know it's bad when you work on trucks older then you for most of your day. I am 24 years old. I feel bad when these guys spend more money on there trucks then what it is worth and only fix minor things.
