Anyone ever deal with trying to fix/sell powerwashers?

On my journeys through the trash today I came across a (much much worse condition) of this powerwasher:

    https://www.pressurewashersdirect.co...iABEgIKdfD_BwE

The one I found is missing the wheels, and I am assuming has something wrong with it but it turns over and could probably work fine with a little work and $15 of wheels for is and a good cleaning. If it is a $2000 brand-new powerwasher, someone has got to be willing to pay some money for these things used, but I am having trouble finding a second hand market for these. I dont see any on craigslist, and there is no way it would be economical to ship this thing as its gotta be over 100lbs and is large. Edit: just looked, its 190 Pounds

What yall think? Should I bother with trying to fix it and sell it or just take it apart and scrap it out?

The engine is worth getting running, but most pumps are trash when they don't work. If the engine runs and the pump doesn't work (which is more common), scrap the unit or repurpose the engine.

This is pretty good advice. I think the engine will run without much effort. However, I still dont know what I would do with the engine. I have no use for it. I guess I could try and sell it and see if I get any takers.... OR.... I can use it to build a go kart!

If I were shopping for a pressure washer... I'd buy that for $200 vs. a cheaper one priced at $200 new.

.... in the market for a pressure washer? Ill make you a great deal. LOL

If I could get $50 for it as-is I would be ecstatic. Just not sure where people who are looking for used professional pressure washers are looking if not craigslist.... I'll have to do some more googling.

That's a professional grade machine. I don't think i would scrap it unless both the motor and the pump were pooched.

The one we had at work was closer to consumer grade. It had a 5 hp motor and 2700 psi max.The pump went on it so i just replaced it. It was about a hundred bucks. It was working so well that somebody lugged it off. Guess i should have chained it to a post.

It all depends on the water that they've been running through the pump. Sometimes it's just the diverter valve that needs to be replaced. Sometimes it needs a new set of valves & seals. Sometimes they're too corroded inside to be worth saving. You could probably send the pump out for a professional rebuild. It might be worth doing for a high end pump.

On the downside .... 4000 psi @ 4gpm is a lot of water. You would need access to city water. A private well probably wouldn't be able to keep up.

On the upside .... you could do crazy things like stripping paint & rust off steel with a beast like that. Forget hours of raking leaves in the fall. Five minutes work and those leaves would be in the next county.

You might try listing it under contractor's tools on CL if the motor works. There's a fair chance that the motor could be used to power up a belt driven generator head as well. Odds are that somebody out there would take a chance on it for a hundred bucks.

I think I will list it on craigslist and see if I can get anything for it without messing with it too much. If I get no takers then I'll try fixing it up maybe and selling it then. If I still get no takers, then itll have to be scrap.

Not a bad plan. Don't put any more into it than you have to.

Checked CL here in maine and there wasn't a category for contractor's tools but there was one for farm & garden. What you've got would be a good basis for a project.

I know i've been trying to source a decent used 10 hp generator motor this week. Picked up a couple of jennys last week and the motor is shot on one of them. It's not difficult to repower em' but the motors can be hard to find sometimes.

There are more uses for a horizontal straight shaft with a pulley like what you've got. The Honda motors are especially desirable because they have such a good reputation. 13 HP ... yep ... you could do a lot of different things with that.

Edited to add: You might try one of the small engine repair shops in your area as a potential buyer. It's hard to imagine them having any problems paying you 50.00$ if either the motor or the pump checks out okay.

Do you know how old it is ? Is there a production date stamped on the engine?

There is a lawn and tractor equipment place right down the road from me that advertises small engine repair, but they mostly sell all new stuff so idk if they would have any interest in this thing. But ill give it a go for sure. If the engine fires up may just save it for the day I finally can build a go kart. I have the space for it, just no immediate use/need.

Welp, bad news. I thought the engine was turning over fine but must have mixed it up. Just went out to look at it again and I think the engine is seized. Cant pull the pull starter at all, its all locked up. Guess that explains why it was in the garbage. Oh well, still may get a taker on craigslist for a few bucks to take it and try and get it working or take the pump off, assuming that that works.

So I put it up on craigslist and letgo for $125 and got 3 people wanting to come get it within an hour.... guess I should have listed it a bit higher. Just glad I found $125 in the trash this week! add that to the golf clubs I found that I am going to get around $300 for, and all the other shred stuff, its gunna be a pretty good week.

I dont think. It has been in the 50s the last couple days. I have a handful of people interested at $125, ones coming today for it this evening. I didnt really want to deal with troubleshooting it, and I got it for free so I think taking the money and running is my best bet

13 hp is a bit big for a gokart.
5 hp is good for a gokart with 4 strong wheel barrow wheels on it.
By 'good' in mean 'good enough to get you into trouble' lol.
My first one was 2 1/2 hp 2 speed & a mates was a Honda 5hp, Dad made noth of them. The 5 hp one had a loose belt drive from the motor to the axle, ( it could have been a double reduction using a chain sprocket from the secondry shaft to the axle. Its a while ago.
So only one gear but the loose B section drive belt was tightened by a lever with a car waterpump bearing on it & that was connected to a handlever to tighten/ loosen the belt.the bearing run on the belt.

Used trampoline frameing is good for making gokart frames, it took me 3-4 tries, but I figured out a good frame using just one trampoline frame & knowing exactly where to cut it to then reassemble it into a ' 4 ' shape ( on its side ) utilising the bends, welded 'T ' & the swaged inserted ends.
The front suspension is a rear swingarm from the motorbike that donated its engine.
Its cut in 1/2 & bracing welded on it & the front steering C welded to near where the original axle was, the C has a vertical bolt thru it for the steering pivot & axle. Front suspensions sorta like a old VW car, trailing swingarm, it utilises the twin rear shocks too.

You might not believe me, cause I couldn't even believe it.... today I found a full go-kart frame on the curb. Im gunna make a go kart from garbage! cant wait!
