What Does my Pickup Cap Fit?

At a farm auction, I recently bought a pickup topper for $5. I didn't measure it, though, so it naturally doesn't fit anything I have! I'll be reselling it, but I'd like to know what exactly I have.

I can take some pictures later, but it's an older Leer. It's plainly-styled (Similar to this):


It's 7' long (Not 6 1/2), and has a center high mounted brake light. What truck ever had a 7' bed?



Any ideas on what I just bought?

well, I have a chart of GM trucks, but nothing else, but I can tell you the closest thing GM had to 7' would be the 99-10 short boxes, they measure 81.5"

the cab angle is a few degrees different from ex cab vs. quad cabs, and the boxes are tapered those years, prior to '99 the beds are and inch shorter, and prior to '88 the beds are square.

It does a bit.

I own two long bed GMs- a 1987 (Square Body), and a 2000 K3500 (GMT400). We brought it home in the square body. It's resting on top of the wheel wells- it's a good 6-8" shy of fitting that. And, it's shorter of course.

I thought I remember someone saying once that the Ford Ranger had a 7' bed? Does anyone know if that's true?

All I know is that it's too narrow for either of our Chevrolets.

Is there a model # on the cap?

I'll check on the model, and I'll grab some photos when I get home.

It looked long to me, and the color even matched our new truck. Sadly, though, I'm at a loss on this one!

The Center brake light means that it must be mid 90s or newer, right?

There are a couple of truck models listed with an 84" long bed.

Neat! They show the 1992-1996 F-150 Flareside as having a 7' bed! I always thought it was a 6 1/2 foot bed.

If that's the case, I may have finally found a cap for my other truck! I gave up looking due to the odd size.

Now, watch- it'll still probably be wrong!

It fits! That turned out to be a much better buy than I've thought! I'd basically given up on finding a cap for that truck- the Flaresides are very rare.

Now, I just have to come up with how to secure it. Ford decided not to have a lip on their bed like they did on the regular trucks.

A few brackets later, I'll come up with something.
