How to clean pop tabs for resale

Well, I recently found out people buy pop tabs and I needed to clean then to attract interest. This is how I did it.
    1. I plugged one spot of my sink with a drain plug.
    2. Get a strainer
    3. Fill sink with water and soap
    4. Put pop tabs in strainer and stir tabs with your hand. Shake the bowl, unsubmerge then resubmerge. Do this for maybe 5 minutes.
*Note* If your pop tabs have soda stuck to them soak them in the strainer for at most 5 minutes then stir.
    5. Rinse off suds
    6. Put in a dry place and let them dry- I'm gonna let mine sit overnight
TIP- separate colored tabs and rectangular tabs (From Red Bull cans- I think) These are worth more $
If you don't want to do this inside fill a bucket or tote of water and do the same procedure.

4ever, you rock. Thank you for this.

Oh, and i believe green tabs are on cans of the Monster Energy drink. There are red ones on Bud Classic. Where are the blue ones from?

Well burly I'm not sure what you think I'm kidding about either people buying them or if you just think I'm flat out stupid for wasting my time but everyone is entitled to their own opinion

Sorry, I didn't mean any insult by this, I was just wondering how much they're paying for them that makes this worth your while?

No worries and 2 pounds sold for $15 not sure if it would be worth it to take them off every can but for some reason I had a few bags of tabs

Burley, they are paying good money for these things. Kid you not. I did something like an hour of research for everyone on this in the Crafters Stuff thread. Just pop the tabs off when doing something else.

When people pay 10 bucks a lb for legos, or silly prices for things like Christmas lights..is it really strange? You'll likely be quite surprised at the stuff in the craft thread.

For a guy who does clean outs, I'd think not much surprised you anymore in regards to things people will pay for.

Thanks for this S4E, I save them also, but have yet to do anything with the rather large collection we have. I'll have to change this. besides..not like taking the top off will devalue any can's I take in! LOL.

oh an you can also get other colors from the tea cans, like arizona. I think some come in black an a off goldish.

Wow, I learn something new every freaking day! Stuff like THIS is why I subscribe to this forum! It sounded insane to me on the surface, but it didn't seem like s4e would be doing it if there weren't a reasonable return on it. I am still incredulous, but with all the deposit bottles and cans I get here in Michigan, I can certainly start separating the tops for a few extra bucks.

I think the various monster cans have different colors..Like green tops, black, gold. I want to say are the ones I've seen.

Another great idea, spawned by that craft thread..heh.

I'll save'm as I drink sodas, beer, etc in cans. Don't do energy drinks, but I find them enough, same with the ones I do drink..I find them all the time on the side of the road. Reckon it's worth the extra 5 seconds to remove the pop top, when I'm readying them for the bags.

S4E..thanks again for the idea. An Jilly for making the thread that got him to share it.

Sirscrapalot - Once you pop the top you just can't stop.

100 tabs make 1 ounce but I've found that they sell better by quantity- 100 for $2

Just some math to put it into perspective.
If the HEAVIEST drinker drank an 18 pack of beer a day.........

    18x 365 days = 6570 tabs
@100 tabs per oz. Thats 65.7 oz or 4.1 lbs.
@$15 per lb. on Ebay Thats $61.50

Also, just cause i'm already doing math:

    18x 365 days = 6570 cans
@~30 cans per lb. Thats 219 lbs.
@ $0.45 per lb. for alum cans. Thats $98.55

They are so common, an so easy to pull off...I feel bad for not doing so uptill now, cept for when my wife needed them for something.

I find them everywhere. If it was a matter of having to drink to get them, I'd not bother, but seeing as every idiot an their brother likes to toss them out the window..I'll grab them. Seeing as I got tourists who drink them daily non-stop an pitch them in the beach trashcans...I'll keep taking cans, an will now begin pulling the tops off.

Once again, just like tv's , an everything else..Just cause it works for some folks..don't mean it will for you.

    YMMV

I'm not knocking it at all. I collect them myself. I just wanted to put into perspective just how many it takes. A LOT!
After a couple of weeks of pulling them off, It will become a habit. Then, just feed the collection for a couple years.

    More math:
Small objects + Repetition over time = $
Same reason I collect tantalum caps. Sure, it might take me forever to fill a bucket, but i'm gonna give her hell!

Oh I know Parker, apologies if it sounded like I was meaning you.

I was just putting it out there. Didn't mean to make it sound like I was bashing ya or implying you said such buddy. I was mainly just sharing my thoughts. Sorry if ya felt I was directing at you.

I should have used more smiles. Ha ha!
