    Windows XP Refurbs

    Aloha everyone!

This topic is more geared towards the folks that refurbish their desktops/laptops.

Just wanted to remind everyone that on April 8th, Microsoft will no longer support Windows XP. This includes security updates. What does this mean for you? Any computers you're refurbishing, should have Windows Vista (yuck) or Windows 7 installed on them for your customers. Windows XP will be extremely vulnerable to viruses.

Most dual core machines have the ability to have Windows 7 installed on them.

If you guys have any questions about refurbishing the older dual cores, send me a PM and I'd be more than happy to help you guys out.

    E

I also heard 2000 is much like W7. I have noticed an up take in the offering of xp machines on CL here. down from $100 or so to $50. 29% of the machines in the U.S operate on xp.

Yea, Microsoft seems to get every other operating system correct. XP was awesome, Vista is Terrible, 7 is awesome, 8 is terrible.

For general, everyday Windows XP users will experience a large influx of viruses and other nasties. I guarantee I'll be very, very busy the next few months in the shop (7 upgrades).

But I wanted to let you guys know, people should be installing 7 on the refurbs instead of XP to save the end-users some trouble. Keep any of the XP discs/drivers you can though, if you plan on using it down the road.

An lots of businesses. I was just talking with Brojer about this actually. An how a lot of the computers I get from my one source, are mostly businesses still running XP.

I can testify to the awesomeness that is 7. I love it way more then Vista thats for sure.

An Emeeks is serious, need help..let him know. Between him an Brojer I'm back an running after suffering major hard drive failure. Heck both are excellent folks if you ever need help. Both are excellent anyways, but still, they are both know what the eff their doing.

    Sirscrapalot - Just singing praises.

Yep, many many businesses are upgrading to 7 now (out of necessity). I'd expect a large influx of both upgrades (for computer shop owners) and recycling pickups (for the scrappers) or both if you run an outfit like us.

No I think I'm cheaper - have four computers still running XP (ouch). Old dog needs to learn new tricks or at least come into the new century!

If they're not connected to the internet, you shouldn't have too many problems (unless you're using thumb drives and external drives from different computers).

If they can be upgraded, let me know and I'll see if I can help you through the process. Embrace 7!
