    Cast Iron Wood Stove?

    Hi guys,

My name is James - just getting into scrapping. I made an introduction thread (70 views, 1 standard response!) here: http://www.scrapmetalforum.com/intro...rom-maine.html

I have this wood stove that my father has in storage. It seems pretty clear to me that it's worth more than scrap value.

Anyone have type of idea what it's worth? I have been trying to find some information, but while I continue to look, I figured I'd post here. If I had to guess, I would say it weighs anywhere from 80-100 pounds. I haven't loaded it into the truck yet to get a real grasp at what it weighs. That's just a guess from shuffling it around.

I'm going to be heading home to visit the family tonight, so I'll have an opportunity to take out, and possibly take any more pictures if that would help. It says "Riteway" on a couple different places.

    Thanks in advance!

That is definitely different. I would give it a shot on the open market and then if no takers it could always be scrapped, but if your weight guess is right I would definitely think it would bring more than scrap.

Most wood burning appliances in storage are no more than boat anchors.

The USA and other county's will have similar requirements, to our CSA certification, if the stove is not tagged scrap it. No insurance company will insure the home without it.

    Checking Out Your Woodstove
Look for Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) or Canadian Standards Association (CSA) certification. EPA approved woodstoves include features designed to completely burn pollutants before they leave the firebox. They are not only more efficient than most older models, but can cut smoke emissions by as much as 90%! If your existing stove is more than 10 years old, then it may be time to replace it with a new advanced combustion unit meeting EPA / CSA standards.

What you have is a very old and very rare circa 1794 national treasure, a National Treasure!

See if you can find a model number and google it for info. Does it have an inner box? Definitely looks like a decent wood stove

Don't get your hopes up. Do your research.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

What he has is a more modern wood heater, the only cast iron i see is the front door. The rest is sheet metal held together with screws, its shred, material and they may dock him for the fire brick liner.

Thank you everyone. I'm going to give it a closer to look to see if I can see if it's tagged or not. And I'm going to take a closer look at the siding to see if it's what Gus said.

    Much appreciated!

Should be able to get $100-200 for the unit. My dad had a fireplace shop and we never had a problem selling old wood stoves. Some looked very ugly. Like gustavus said tagged is the key. The only negative on yours is that it has the side exhaust. That takes up a lot of room and will probably only be put in a shed. Good luck selling it.

Just like John said, I would think that you could get at least $100 for it. I see small used stoves like that on the local classifieds (in NW PA) often, and the asking price is usually $100+. I'm not sure if that specific brand/model is worth any more or less, I just know that I've seen lots of similar ones listed.
