ac motors

how the hel l do you get the motor out? i cut the top off and threw it on the ground a few times to try to slide it out, but its not comming. any ideas?

There's 2 aluminum or copper lines that sometime hold it in place if it's a fridge compressor or window ac compressor. You'll need tin snips to cut those or a smaller angle grinder or dremel. Now if you had the 70 pound cylinder ones from the industrial ac's, they're sized to fit. Meaning you can't just drop them out. Cut them in half along the weld seam. Then knock them flat with a sledge and they will work themselves out. They put the motors in so close and over time the heat and the movement of the motor pretty much tact welds it to the outter casing.

sorry i just wrote it up in a hurry and this is my first air conditioner ive ever tore apart. its a window air conditioner and im talking about the compressor ( the big black thing right?) probably weighs 35 or so pounds. So i cut it from the bottom? from the top i cant see any springs or anything that holds it in, and the lines that go to it are cut (on the outside though, there not cut on the inside)

Sounds like the lines are keeping it from coming out. Last compressor I did was built that way. Usually I can cut the top and pop them out. Not this particular one. If you have a grinder with a cutoff wheel, make 4 cuts around each line all the way through to pop it from the compressor case.

Sometimes mine have springs holding the motor in and sometimes its just some wires holding it in. I'm a bit confused though, is the OP having a hard time getting the motor off the unit or has gotten it off and is having a hard time getting the motor out of the compressor after cutting the top or bottom off?

if he cut the wrong end and its the springs holding the motor in he should be able to pull it up enough to cut the springs with a long handled nipper, thats what I've done before.
