    Question about ferrite maybe?

Ok, I've seen folks discussing ferrite here. Is that the stuff that looks like magnets that is around the top part of a computer or tv monitor that the copper is around? Its heavy and is this also the round things that are in the same items that look like napkin rings that copper is sometimes wound around or wiring is wound around?

If so, is that supposed to be scrapped separately from metal? I've been throwing it in my small metal bin when I'm breaking larger stuff down since a magnet sticks to it.

Yep, that's what we do with it. Right in the steel bucket. But if you install a high powered stereo and ever have any noise coming in your power line to the speakers, use one or two of those "napkin Rings"(actually called a ferrite choke) on your power wire for the stereo or amp and it will stop any electrical noise from getting into the stereo and out your speakers.

Just to add a little more info to this posting, for you loud stereo lovers(in your work vehicle) if you have any engine noise, hydraulic engine noise(from snow plows-salt shakers), or any other vehicle electrical noises getting into your amp or high powered stereo. Take the power wires and/or the input wires to the amp and wrap them around and thru those ferrite chokes we've all been collecting. It will take all electrical interference noise out of the picture. The more you wrap the wires the better the filtering. A friend of mine used to run a yellow warning light and the "whine" from it would trash the receive of his CB radio. I used a ferrite choke on the power wire for the light and all the noise was gone like magic. Hope this helps someone,,,
