You just joined and at least 2 of your first 3 posts, your asking where to find this or that so you can save money. Most, if not all members on this forum are scrappers (at various levels). Some may be local to you. Do you really think that people are just going to give up thier Honey Holes like that? Do some research here and use the search function, you may just find some answers. Don't come in and expect anyone to spoon feed you and teach you all the secrets. As you establish yourself here aND contribute some useful information, people may be more apt to help.

yes I do but in York and Cumberland Counties in Maine , you would be better off looking on your own , look on trash days , post an ad , get some business cards and read everything you can here. Most important know the laws in your area

Now calm down guys, you may not have realized that you are speaking to the King. LOL, so sorry, I just couldn't resist.

Welcome to the forum. Do a search for each of the materials you are seeking. Then you will know what to begin to look for
Copper, brass, and Leather. 3 of my favorite things.

I've been stewing about this since I first read your post this afternoon. Thank you all for chiming in and saying my thoughts.

No body is gonna spoon feed you. You want to pour, buy your raw product.

You want to get away on the cheap, learn. Read the old posts. Go to the scrapyard and ask questions. Know what you want and pay for it, or learn how to get it. One member has a postscript ( or whatever it's called) saying something to the effect of "if you think scrapping is easy, your're in the wrong business".

Learn. There is no scrapping school. Everything is here or other social media. It's up to you to figure it out

    Good luck to you.

Quote from a good friend of mine " it ain't easy" .

First there are many ways to obtain these items. As others suggested read the old threads. What works in the rural part of America may not work in urban areas, therefore I am not going to go into detail how I obtain my non ferrous. These are suggestions for anyone.

    Create a network of contractors.
    Advertise.
Reward people that provide insight and opportunity.
Dress professionally when contacting a new client.
Leave the property in better shape than when you arrived.
Be honest, under estimate your ability to complete a job and over preform.
Most importantly, treat people with respect even if they are not your client.

Based on these principals three jobs presented themselves in the last two days. All three were turned down for at least a month. We will see if they are available after this time frame. Bottom line, reputation means more than any thing else.
Give back more to this world than we take.

Failure to heed Patriot76's advise will prolong the time it takes to get educate yourself.

Reading old threads will expose you to ideas you don't know, didn't know you should know. Mike

I totally agree about the urban vs rural thing........Never living in the middle of the city would I be asked to haul a tractor or break down a grain silo..........But I also doubt that patriot breaks down 10's of thousands of electronics per year like I do in an urban area........Find a niche and go with it.........As far as free aluminum on the side of the road cans are your best bet.......When I was homeless and a drunk I could at least earn myself some beers just walking a few mile route picking up cans

You are correct, my hands and tools are to big to scrap electronics. At the same time I picked up 300 yds. of wire today from an irrigation system that dropped the back end of a 1 ton truck.

If you are intending to cast Aluminium items for use or resale. I think you needed to use a certain grade of Aluminium.
Since 'Cast Aluminium grade' is what you want, your Ali feedstock should be Cast Aluminium items.
Like Aluminium I intake manifolds from cars and other cast stuff.

Extrusion and Aluminium cans are probably the wrong grade Ali.
