Another option is to Google "metal detector" and forum. There are several good sites on the internet, and some of them have sub-forums for folks who are looking for partners or for questions on where to go hunt, and just as important, what places are off limits (state parks, etc).

There is a place called Friendly Metal Detecting Forum....Just like the name sounds, they are friendly and a great group of people...I learned a lot from that site and even managed to meet a hunting partner on there.

Metal detecting is not only very fun to do, but it can easily be very profitable. If you can get permission, these are reasonable places to find modern coinage, or older if the schools dates back to while. You can do hunting in city parks, old parks, old ballfields, picnic areas and campgrounds. Look for large trees, places lovers hide to get away from the crowd.

My brother and I are both enthusiasts, and he saves his metal junk he finds in some 5 gallon buckets I took him. He gave me 60 lbs of scrap a couple months ago, I added it to some scrap I took in, then with the money I got from his bought him a 24 pack of AA batteries for his DFX. That junk turned into battery money.

gotta try the ski slopes in the spring there is usually some competition but bring a five gallon bucket been doing this for years and always make a ton of money! I find a lot of old dump sites in the woods were I live old logging camps and farm house foundations are a great place to look i also like to go along snowmobile trails and the river usually find junk but once in a while you get something good!
There ain't nothing wrong with an honest days work. Anyone who says otherwise is a fool.- Old Man

I have always enjoyed metal detecting. When I was growing up, this was something that my dad and I did together. I have a White's Eagle II SL and an older model White's metal detector. Although I haven't found a gold coin yet, I have found several gold rings and lots of silver coins.
