I'm pretty small time but brought a loaded trailer to the yard last week. While we were unloading the guys were telling me about a man who brought 20 lbs of steel to sell. Gates were just locked for the night but he stayed out there crying telling them he needed the money. $2.40

No joke! sounds like he did. I got .60/lb. today, and .40/lb. for radiator alum. .

I have a roll (over 100lb.s) of copper plated steel, insulated High voltage wire (looks just like 12 wire) ,
Been saving it for next place that rips me off!
(accidently sold about 10 lb.s off it before I noticed what it was, Got 2.45/lb. but it messed me up because I slacked a few days since I thought I had 12 wire copper).

Most weight I hauled in one trip was 1500 lb.s of steel (plate mostly), in Ford Ranger.
(thought the tires were going to pop). Took about hour to load, half hour to get there, all before 9a.m. .

I actually made a lot (fastest, pure luck finds) when I was new, because nowhere had told me to leave yet, or posted "No Trespassing" yet either. But that was like $80 in half hour, Driving for $12 more rest of day. Now I'm more consistent.

Most I can remember: myself and the guy who taught me a bunch, bought a huge load of water cooler/heaters for 5gal. jugs. For dirt cheap (from a collection place for them).
Disassembled them ("cleaned" them) ALL evening, night, next day...woke up at 5am and my buddy was still in his yard stripping them! (I usually work others into the ground but was , like " I Have to rest , sorry, just have to now" by about 2:30am).

We got over $400 each. Can't remember the weight in compressors, but the truck was sitting LOW.
Then he tossed all the plastic casings with steel and got away with it.
We may have made more than that off wood pallets a few times.
I think pallets generally s*ck though unless they're like a block from a place that wants them, despite whatever money. Unemployed ,Had one baby at home and other on the way while learning scrap...not sure exactly how that happened.

I'm certain I'll be making more once I get a few things in order,
    steps up and another up.

Not by any means our biggest load, but one of the most surprising ones our our part. One time I turned a 16.00 investment into 8250.00 bucks. We bought these crypto cards(which we though were just scrap aluminum with a little board) as just low grade scrap. End up having it bought for memory. We were very surprised.

A lawyer called me about cleaning up a property. Seemed like a retired Beckwith Mechanic (heavy equipment), was a scrapper and never hauled anything in. We got to the house and I was amazed. I took out a 1 ton dump of stainless pots and pans, 1 ton dump of alum. pots and pans, two dumps of lawn chairs, misc. steel probally 20-30 truck loads. 3 trucks all week long, I had five guys loading. Three tractors, several cars and a truck with dump insert, and tons of parts. Knocked down over $25,000. The biggest hit was when we went to pull an old econoline van up to haul away. I opened up the back doors and from the doors to the front seat were plastic bags with a brown paper bag inside full of copper with the wire burnt off and wound up and wrapped in the middle. Filled my truck bed to the rails and had my shocks sagging it was about $3000 in copper. I will never forget opening up those doors.

Our record is about 9000. Id have to check the papers but Im real lazy right now so maybe a bit more. Every month we we trade and usually the big months, like this one, include e-scrap. #2 copper, yellow brass, aluminum, insulated wire, aluminum/copper radiators with steel endcaps cut off. Plus a large quantity of high grade boards, ram, and cpus.

Good to hear PSP! If you can pull it off, then I say why not. Wasn't there a model that once said she doesn't get out of bed for less then $10K a day? Like I said, if you can get it, go for it.

    Probably made more in bed.

Keep an eye open for those KT Cummins engines, I got 12k for the one I pulled from the scrap.

KT-1150 from an old Bycurus, shipped it off to a guy in California.
