Wow ive never made less than 100,000 in flooring until i broke my leg but i made 83.03 on my first scrap run
Quote:
pulled it with my 1090 3/4 ton Dodge and a 30 ft wench trailer.
And quite tall too,,,Quote:
Da*n she musta been strong.
I'm pretty small time but brought a loaded trailer to the yard last week. While we were unloading the guys were telling me about a man who brought 20 lbs of steel to sell. Gates were just locked for the night but he stayed out there crying telling them he needed the money. $2.40
**** man you got 118 for 900 p's of aluminum?! Ill get more than that for 900 pounds of unprepared steel at my yard
No joke! sounds like he did. I got .60/lb. today, and .40/lb. for radiator alum. .Quote:

I have a roll (over 100lb.s) of copper plated steel, insulated High voltage wire (looks just like 12 wire) ,
Been saving it for next place that rips me off! ;)
(accidently sold about 10 lb.s off it before I noticed what it was, Got 2.45/lb. but it messed me up because I slacked a few days since I thought I had 12 wire copper).
Most weight I hauled in one trip was 1500 lb.s of steel (plate mostly), in Ford Ranger.
(thought the tires were going to pop). Took about hour to load, half hour to get there, all before 9a.m. .
I actually made a lot (fastest, pure luck finds) when I was new, because nowhere had told me to leave yet, or posted "No Trespassing" yet either. But that was like $80 in half hour, Driving for $12 more rest of day. Now I'm more consistent.
Most I can remember: myself and the guy who taught me a bunch, bought a huge load of water cooler/heaters for 5gal. jugs. For dirt cheap (from a collection place for them).
Disassembled them ("cleaned" them) ALL evening, night, next day...woke up at 5am and my buddy was still in his yard stripping them! (I usually work others into the ground but was , like " I Have to rest , sorry, just have to now" by about 2:30am).
We got over $400 each. Can't remember the weight in compressors, but the truck was sitting LOW.
Then he tossed all the plastic casings with steel and got away with it.
We may have made more than that off wood pallets a few times.
I think pallets generally s*ck though unless they're like a block from a place that wants them, despite whatever money. Unemployed ,Had one baby at home and other on the way while learning scrap...not sure exactly how that happened.
I'm certain I'll be making more once I get a few things in order,
steps up and another up.
Not by any means our biggest load, but one of the most surprising ones our our part. One time I turned a 16.00 investment into 8250.00 bucks. We bought these crypto cards(which we though were just scrap aluminum with a little board) as just low grade scrap. End up having it bought for memory. We were very surprised.
A lawyer called me about cleaning up a property. Seemed like a retired Beckwith Mechanic (heavy equipment), was a scrapper and never hauled anything in. We got to the house and I was amazed. I took out a 1 ton dump of stainless pots and pans, 1 ton dump of alum. pots and pans, two dumps of lawn chairs, misc. steel probally 20-30 truck loads. 3 trucks all week long, I had five guys loading. Three tractors, several cars and a truck with dump insert, and tons of parts. Knocked down over $25,000. The biggest hit was when we went to pull an old econoline van up to haul away. I opened up the back doors and from the doors to the front seat were plastic bags with a brown paper bag inside full of copper with the wire burnt off and wound up and wrapped in the middle. Filled my truck bed to the rails and had my shocks sagging it was about $3000 in copper. I will never forget opening up those doors.
i wish i could your guys prices the only place i have thats close to me is short changing everyone they have the monopoly :( the next closest place is 60 miles away
.30 clean AL
.40 AL cans
.2.00 #1 copper
1.10 brass
$80/ton unprepared scrap
$120/ton prepared scrap
but my best load in was a yard clean out ( i found an old junk toyota car barried in the weeds outback ) lots of copper and AL and 2.5 tons of scrap netted about $450
Our record is about 9000. Id have to check the papers but Im real lazy right now so maybe a bit more. Every month we we trade and usually the big months, like this one, include e-scrap. #2 copper, yellow brass, aluminum, insulated wire, aluminum/copper radiators with steel endcaps cut off. Plus a large quantity of high grade boards, ram, and cpus.
KT-1150 from an old Bycurus, shipped it off to a guy in California.

Lol yathats what I like to see a ford going were it belongs. Idk what profit I clears but I took in 7009lbs of batterys in my 1ton and that was at .40 lb and I took in 6500lbs of rotors in my 87 chevy. That I made I think 650 after paying for it.
2 grand - split between 3 people .... ---- a plumber died and we cleaned up his property .... 1k in copper alone .....
By one scrap run I'm guessing you mean one trip. The most I got from one trailer load was 425. It was 2 big steel tanks.
i had a towbar that i modified with a steel plate to bolt to the bumper using the factory bolts on school busses. 2 hours, from when i showed up to when i had cash in hand. 10,000lb @200 a ton= 500 a hour. that was also my first % split that i ever did. the farmer was in the process of cleaning up to sell the farm, and was rather suprised when i returned and handed him a envlope. i figured 50/50 was fair since he wasn't expecting anything, and was still more than i was expecting since it was the magical pickup whare nothing goes wrong.
$5404.10
Was a good load.
Followed by 4 more 3000-4000 loads
wow how things have changed since i posted my $600 on wheels, im not gonna say alot but it has improved
largest load?? hmmm shred would be the roll off i send in every week or 2 usually 6-8 thousand pounds but this week i am hauling 30,000 pounds of plastic if that counts :) my biggest load i ran my self was probably $3000 in e-waste they pick it up from me now
My biggest load was $47.50 last Saturday. $15 of that as cans, the rest was shred. I rent a home with no garage so as soon as I have a truck load I have to take it in. Been saving all the good stuff in totes so my numbers will be going up soon.
My best money making load was extruded aluminum railings from a hospital making 350$
The next that I can remember were these medical office chairs.(like the ones you sit in when you have teeth cleaned) The weight was like 840 lbs. I made 240$ Keep in mind that both these trips were around 2005 when prices were no where near what they are now.
biggest load I ever took in was also my first e-scrap load ever.a ladys husband died so she had to sell her home .he husband ran a part time computer and electronic repair business out of his home .took me three days and 12 trips with my big suv to get it all .and ill never forget the numbers.138 towers,72 servers,400+ lbs of mixed green board 72 lbs memory 37 lbs cpu ,most were older, and about 1200 lbs of mixed oddball electronics and more. total scrap value after the 7 days it took me to break it all down was 6,392 dollars. best part it was FREE:) the next day I started buying e-scrap
Most that ive made before fuel costs was 500ish mostly burnt copper some millberry tho. it was about 60kg of mixed copper beetween the 2 and steel, alli, batterys insulated cords, and few kg's of brass
$1300.00
$1600.00 just on server boards
I love reading back through these old responses. It only adds fuel to the fire. For me, I finally broke the $100 dollar mark two days in a row with $133 yesterday and $102 today.
Anyone else have an update?
I would have to say the most I made was my first trip to the scrap yard. I made friends, a business relationship, and an education. After touring the facility and meeting all of the employees, I knew a few of the details that were important to them. Next trip brought donuts followed by soda and other gifts. Trips into this yard are limited at this point, but they still treat me well. More importantly, my son has taken over my previous business and reports he goes to the front of the line, gets extra help unloading, and everyone treats him as royalty. As far as value amount of a load, more than I deserve.
The most made on one load didn't involve my loading or going to the yard. I came home from eating breakfast one morning to find a box truck from a scrap yard sitting in my driveway. My wife had told him I'd likely be home shortly. He wanted to deal. Decided to sell my copper, brass and some other stuff. He carried and loaded. I collected $1845. Money for the one-week vacation I had planned to the midwest two weeks later.
I think my record was around $350 from a Prius load of ewaste that I had been saving for a few months.
My best load was $1000. Heaviest load was 700# of batteries. I'm another small timer working out of my car for now.
If you're talking about weight, I'd guess the load of UPS batteries I got one day - Twelve batteries were around 3600 pounds. Once we got them on the trailer, they went straight to the Exide recycling location. http://i1209.photobucket.com/albums/...6-25-11002.jpg
Or it might have been this load. I forget what it weighed. http://i1209.photobucket.com/albums/...2-12-11001.jpg
Not counting the loads they picked up - usually around 120 batteries - 6000 pounds.
38 hot water tanks. I think it was $425.00-$450.00 Ewaste was $1200.00
