Good luck and don't get discouraged. Lot of times, the first run is a "learning experience".
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

    Good luck!

Being your first run, don't be intimidated. Don't let them downgrade your aluminum for example if there's a single piece that's dirty. Instead just throw that piece back in the truck for your next run.
If it wasn't for the $ in $crap, it would just be.....

Do your yards 'add' the scales weights together or do they 'Zero' the scales between weights.

My yard has just started to 'add' the weights up, it means more $$ for me & I get paid for every gram now. I think its because I only go there now.

    Before it was,
    5 1/2 #2Copper, scales read [5Kg] Zero scales.
then 5 1/2kg Brass, scales read [5Kg] Zero scales
then 5 1/2kg domestic Copper, scales read [5Kg] Zero scales
then 5 1/2 Ali, scales read [5Kg] All up 20Kgs metal

    This is what happens now......
    I put up 1/2Kg #2Copper, scales reads [5kg]
    then 5 1/2kg Brass, scales read [11kg]
then 5 1/2kg domestic Copper, scales read [16Kg]
    then 5 1/2 Ali, scales read [22Kg]

So theres a extra 1Kg brass & 1Kg Ali that I get paid for.

Its also a reason to put up the cheaper metals first,... but I don't.

alum mixed (extrusion, and heat sinks) (yard pays same called to check)
Just FYI, most heat sinks are extruded, other random alum. is usually listed as old sheet or something like that.
and then there is cast, cans, etc.

my yard doesn't separate aluminium either. cast extrude and sheet are one price cans are another. this can be discouraging at times but they have never put a magnet to my aluminum so i guess those few dirty pieces that slip through are the price paid.
