The way things are going, it won’t be long before Big Brother requires yards to send out 1099’s to everybody that brings in a bag of cans.

Man, we're lucky, one reason I live living in a small populated state. We have to produce a driver's license but if you're a regular to the non-ferrous guy I go to, You just give your name and say I've been in recently. That's it. No license plates, no fingerprints, and no pixs of you and your scrap. That last one seems pretty silly. 1) if you have a pu and/or trailer loaded, the pix is only going to show what's towards the top of your load unless they're real anal-renative Nazis and make you lay every piece out on the ground for a group photo!! And so what is they have a pix of you and a bunch of Cu pipe? Some guy has Cu plumbing pipe ripped off of a job site I certainly feel sorry for the person and if they can catch the right thief, great, break a couple of knuckles and maybe they'll learn. But how is the state going to prove its the ripped of guy's Cu piping unless he has some sort of identifying marks or stickers on it?? Doesn't most Cu piping look about the same??? Seems over kill as most politicians and bureaucrats like to do...

I like the idea behind doing this in knowing who's who in case of theft, but there has to be a less intrusive way of doing it like taking an image of the vehicle before it gets onto the scale that way if the vehicle is used in a theft, they know about it. Heck pointing video cameras at most angles as the vehicle's getting onto the scale's another workable method.

I hope all goes well Monday. I believe most of your customers won't have a problem but there's always a few that will whine.
All of the yards here pay with checks, take finger prints and have cameras and most don't take walk-ups. No vehicle with tags and valid DL and they send you packing.

They id at my yard and every yard I go to. When it comes to some yards I wish they would check their scales more frequently. Some yards are crooked and you got to be on your toes dealing with them. Or don't deal with them. All this regulations for people try to make an honest buck, only to get burned at the scale sucks.

Man, that's some crazy stuff! Very lucky here so far. Weitzman takes plate #s and you hand in your photo id for payment

I'm in favor of the 1099. Put everyone on a level playing field, at least in regards to reporting for tax purposes.

I buy from a few local people. The larger company, I get them to sign a handwritten ticket. Haven't done this with the local scrappers yet, but will this year. I need to really review the 1099 information before I do this. I don't want to scare people away.

Maybe we can get a few of the larger E-waste guys (Mario and others) and some that own or have owned yards (1956?) to get their take on this.

I'm surprised Pennsy isn't more strict. I assume there are camera's at every yard I go to.

Yard 1 - Give full name, he writes it down, pulls out a HUGE wad of cash from pocket, pays up and I'm on my way.
Yard 2 - Requires Name and license plate number first time you go which you provide(guess it's on the honor system). They give you an ID number to reference thereafter. Next time, you just give them that number.
Yard 3 - Requires drivers license which they photo copy. You're then given a receipt with bar code on it which you scan into a nearby ATM, which then dispenses cash.

Seems like every yard around here does things a little different.

here in Tennessee they want ur DL # and tag # vehicle make and copy of DL . they yard i use always paid me cash when i took in scrap and for the cars . I was told some people had to wait for 3 days on their money . when i took vehicles in i always got the person at the pay out window to sign a bill of sale with all the info on the vehicle just for my own record . being in the car business i don't mind the yards wanting the info .
