Since every state, county, city, and community have different regulations regarding scrapping, materials that can be scrapped, licenses required for certain materials, and curbside picking, I believe you would be best to start this in your local community. But best of luck in your own yard or however you choose to move forward...

A list of ten things you would like to see so your drop off goes smoothly. No tricks. Like a visible scale read out. A all yard yard rule guide. A wish list for scrappers that like good fair business.

Also what services do you expect a yard to perform. Should perform and any suggestions for a better yard .

No need to see the scale read out
(loaded) weight in is printed on the slip >> Right above weight out (unloaded) >> Difference is the weight I get paid for
As far as services >> Once I release the vehicle from the trailer >> Yard guy lifts it off >> Doesn't get much better then that

Works same way for loads of and Aluminum wheels, wiring harnesses and sheet Aluminum
(loaded) weight in is printed on the slip >> Right above weight out (unloaded) >> Difference is the weight I get paid for

For loads weighing less then 200 pounds >> #1 copper, Brass, Dirty Aluminum, motors and other assorted
Put load into large plastic bin on wheels >> weight of empty bin written on side
    Roll over to scale
(loaded) weight in is printed on the slip >> Right below that is printed weight of empty bin (unloaded) >> Difference is the weight I get paid for
I can see the scale and slip is printed right there

Then I stop at the scale house on the way out of the yard and get paid Ca$H

I go to Zions in Middleboro, Ma >> So I don't worry about getting ripped off
In fact if they are closed >> I just leave the vehicle out front and paint my name on the side
Then I stop at the scale house and get paid Ca$H next time I drive by and they are open

    This is a GREAT Country!!!

are you kidding ? How long have you been in the scrap business ? I seems like you believe scrap yard owners are like any other shop owners or independent business owner. FOR THE MOST PART THEY ARN'T, GOOD LUCK.

I think our time would be much better spent fine tuning our own methods to reduce our costs and increase pay out. but that's just me. mcw

This reminds me of when truckers scream to unionize the trucking industry.

I see this ending just as successfully. Read as..I'm not holding my breath, but good luck with that!

Well , you have been given a opportunity to vote and I read your vote. Thanks for sharing.

Now , it's been said ......lets start our own. As if ? Well first input and feed back are key to building a staple . Doing , just good business is my motto . Together, share and build .

If I opened up tomorrow business as usual is fine or can we survive together? I will survive and give @plus service. And who would not like that ? Only those that profit off of you . I'll profit off good business if I became the scale .

I have been thinking of drafting a check sheet to record the weights as weighed, also daily info and milage. I will invest In my own scale to pre weigh . Both are checks to verify honest exchange. Get paid what you earn not what is just given. I can always do better. My customers demand it. I'm a maniac !

What would be gained by preweighing?
    Zion's scales are all certified

If you are doing a SCH C at tax time you better already have >>a check sheet to record the weights as weighed, also daily info and milage

Your statements seem to indicate you believe your yard is ripping you off >> WHY would you continue to deal with people you don't trust?

Really..my yard does me wrong, I find a new yard. All of your paperwork, new laws, regulations, etc won't change the fact someone will try an screw someone somewhere.

Maybe you should be doing something local with this. Cause..I'm quite happy with my main yard, an I got enough hoops to jump through when it comes to visiting the yard or scrapping.

Despite what they tell you, more laws don't stop stupidity or lack of common sense(Bad yard, scrap thieves, etc).

You've yet to give a compelling reason for this. Shouting I'm a maniac an 1 scrap isn't enough for me to join your protest, or for others it seems.

Once again tho...Good luck with your..ahh..movement. Maybe you should start a petition on change.org....

Sirscrapalot - Why yes I could use a hug...but I don't know where your arms have been.

Not a protest. Just good work relations and clear expectations. Same as the yard.

Seems like some are ok if I start a yard ....run it as I see fit ... (like crap ) and like it or bounce ?
That is not business it's drunk on power lol. I care . My customers are always right and I treat everyone the same . Even family. Metallic maniac is my name. And insane jobs are my fame . I work hard for free and I'm honest. Shouldn't the yard I go to also. I make them a lot of money. Big loads. Prime material. New even.

Go try the yard on rt 40 in Joppatown , a friend told me they have the best prices in our area . Esp. Brass

What do I want in a yard ? Honest friendly employees , fair prices and perhaps some help unloading to reduce wait times for other customers . I know you don't like my primary yard so i won't recommend them again but starting your own yard takes serious capital . If I was to attempt anything I would buy ewaste exclusively .

Funny your friend. Smiths a branch of if right few months back I was paid 8 per 100 for a cast iron tub . Super heavy. When I saw the ticket I complained and almost cried. I regularly get over 12 at another yard. That place was always blah. Except about 7 years ago . Maybe more. And the parent yard. Just as bad. They had a good 3 year run then .......

Funny thing about capital the bigger the loan the better your chances. They love multi million dollars loans. (Grants /loans/finance) just meet the requirements.

In my opinion the facility and the scale . How stuff is weighed .

I have seen many collection set up . How tare and tub work are important. The wrong set up breeds confusion. Being honest and open is my policy. Nothing to hide.
