Upstate that is- Central NY. I have been scrapping more and more lately. I have a number of outbuildings that make it easier and a small truck, so I have been not taking on too much steel. I recently was allowed to go through an old house before demolition and took quite a bit of wire and other metals. There was still tons of scrap for the demo guys, who picked up the steel with the excavator. I ran out of time but was happy with what I found, including some cool collectible stuff I can sell on ebay. the main thing I missed out on was architectural stuff, got a mantle and some nice doors and about 20% of some beautiful wide pine floor boards
I have a shop where I can break down stuff and several yards pretty close by. Seems like a good way to fill down time from other work. My Dad was a depression kid, he had a good job but would haul stuff home that he found, including branches for firewood, guess I inherited some of his thrift. We live in a throw away society, college students here throw an enormous amount of usable stuff away.
I am thinking about gas costs in terms of getting higher prices from yards further away, not sure if anyone has done the math on that. with a small truck I figure I will keep it local.
There are lots of interesting threads on here for smaller scale scrappers like me, looking forward to checking them out.
    thanks Tdean
