    Hey guys

    Hey guys, glad to have came across this forum. Owner of Midwest Trendsetters/Joe's Auto Wrecking in North Ridgeville, Ohio. Mainly focus on high end parts (Mercedes BMW Porsche Audi Bentley Maserati Etc) but sitting on 800 cars right now waiting for these scrap prices to go up. Looking forward to any knowledge I can gain or share on here, thx.

    from what I hear, whole cars are heading up a bit but not much, and no idea exactly when other than "soonish".

    If I had 800 cars, I would do a few things to get the most value. Id take all the catalytic converts off each one as they can be worth $20-$100 each in scrap value, I would take out each battery (As that can be $7-10/battery), Id take out each non-plastic radiator ($5-30 each).... and I would also take off each non-magnetic (aluminum-alloy) rim from all the cars (about $10/each).


    Then whatever was left I would scrap whole probably. But thats just me, a guy that doesnt scrap many cars. But just what I would do based of the knowledge I have. others may know more, and obviously if any have rare/valuable parts those would be worth it to remove and resell, but I dont have that knowledge

    Hi and welcome to the forum from Las Vegas! Hope prices go up soon too! Steel hasn't been great for a while but it's really the pits right now!

    Thx guys, KSS appreciate yeah I know what to do with them, just waiting for steel to go up to get rid of the shells. If anyone is in the northeast Ohio area the converter guy I use is great, goes strictly by numbers on each one right in front of you. Averages about $115 per converter. Came across this site actually looking for information on a wire granulator so doing my best to squeeze every dollar out of these things.

    I expect European cars have valuable catalytic converters in them.

    Would this be correct anybody?

    Yes especially bmw. Last load I sold a single 2015 BMW 640i converter for $500. I also get around $350 a piece for bmw 8 cylinder converters off of 4.8L X5’s and the 4.4L turbo motors. Weirdly, exotic converters though aren’t worth much. I’ve gotten ok $$ for maserati Granturismo and Ghibli converters but I have about 12 Bentley converters that are just medium foils and same with Lamborghini. $70 a piece for Lamborghini gallardo converters, ha. Couldn’t believe it.

    So I guess a scrap converter is the only part of a Lambo I could afford lol

    Some European catalytic converters are very valuable, some are not. There are some European cats that are the foil types and it costs more to extract the Platinum, Palladium, and Rhodium from them. They are lower than average. Older cars pre 1996 tend to be loaded less and use more Platinum which is low right now.

    There are some Hondas that are worth $500, $600, $700+.
    There are some Chevrolet that are worth over $400.
    There are some Fords worth over $300.
    There are some Chryslers worth over $350.
    There are some Hyundai’s worth over $300.

    And also some Mercedes and BMWs can be worth less than $150.

    It depends on the year, what it’s used for, how is loaded, etc.

    Palladium is at an all time high as I write this so converters that are loaded with Palladium are sky high right now. Some older converters have more Platinum and Diesel converters also tend to use more Platinum, so they haven’t increased lately in the fashion that Palladium based converters have.

    So there are Chevy Cavalier converters worth over $400 each and yes some Lamborghini, Ferrari, Bentley, Maybach under $150 each. It’s about the loadings not always the car or replacement cost.

    I have a client that I work with closely on refined values in West Virginia who buys some lower end cars at auctions for under $150 a piece but the converters are worth over $200 each. He sells the converters to recoup his money and is sitting on his car bodies and the rest until it increases significantly which may be years.
