Smile Hi! Greetings from Colorado Springs :D

    Hello everyone!

I am new to posting to SMF, but I've been scrapping for about a year now. I scrap out just about anything I can get my hands on, but I work primarily with E-Scrap and lately, silver plate/sterling.

I regularly work with HNO3, H2SO4, and HCL. All of which I have a healthy respect for . If anyone has any questions relating to recovering/refining Gold or Silver, hit me up! I haven't gotten to Pd yet, I am waiting to store up more MLCC's.

Anyway, good to meet you all!

    Viro

On a site note, I'm looking to meet folks who work with e-scrap, as I never seem to be able to find enough of it. Does anyone know of any scrap yards in Colorado that sell e scrap? So far, I am batting .000

Welcome to the forum. We don't talk to much about any type of refining here in this forum, that would be over in the gold refining forum. But I hope you know what you are doing and doing it right because I have heard from pass threads that they are serious about their business and don't take kindly to newcomers that try to refine.

All we do here is scrap stuff so read the old threads and gain some more knowledge and contribute when you can.

    Happy scrapping

    No... They do not.

I spent about 8 months there studying (at GRF) researching, digging, learning. If I ever had a question they were quick to remind me to search the forum, and didn't answer the question. After exhausting my search, and going on the best information I had, I followed the instructions to the letter. If I ran into a problem they loved to heap all manner of derision on my back, and still didn't answer my questions. I don't think they realize how much their clique is loathed, perhaps they do not care.

In any case, I do not go back there. I stood up for myself twice and they got all butt hurt.

I am not like that at all I love to learn, and help others learn too. Knowledge is meant to be shared, no?

Thank you for the warm welcome, I appreciate it!

Well if I had to take a guess, most of those guys over there have spent countless dollars and hours going to college and the such to gain their knowledge and they won't just share it with anyone else. Here, the school of hard knocks is the name of the game. We learn on the fly and go with the flow and whatnot, there is no class to teach scrap recycling, other than here. sure, you can go to YouTube and find some real winners, lol, on there making videos of how they screwed up, but here the knowledge is good and quite shared. If you pay for your membership, you get to go into the scrap room and have deeper discussions about things, special rules apply in there though.

If you stick to scrapping things out, this is the best place to learn the ropes and add your 2 cents in about it, nobody is going to bite your head off, those guys have come and gone over the years. You can tell the guys here that mean business and the ones that are fly by night. We just don't talk refining, a lot of us know that one wrong mixture will land you in the hospital, or worst yet, the morgue. I myself, like life and I would assume that the rest of the people here do also.

You had a bunch of unnecessary words in your post.

I think I still have the GRF in my bookmarks, but I haven't paid a visit there in I couldn't tell you when. As has been discussed, rude doesn't even begin to describe those .... folks.

There used to be a guy on here, Noble metal works, IIRC... he would actually try to be respectful when he'd answer questions. Unfortunately he's not posted here in quite awhile.

All that said, I probably know just about enough about chemistry to earn myself a dirt nap if I ever tried garage refining. I'll just sell my gold bearing ewaste to a buyer & concentrate (heh-heh) on finding more scrap.

Yeah I have not seem Noble in quite a few, I know he was here and there and I thought he was ok and just being straight and forward about garage refining when it would come up. I do not know much about chemistry, nor have I ever taken any chem classes, your just talking to an old fashion diesel / auto tech that like to tear crap apart.
