What up SMF.
Its your friendly neighborhood cable guy. Long time reader just deciding to start posting. Been working in scrap for about 12 years. Not as a full time business but for side money. For a full time I work as a cable installer in virginia. Also as a film maker. Here to share stories of scrapping as a cable guy since that is where most of my materials come from.

Yes i have you really only find it in high end antennas. Really really old rg 59 antenna cables also use a copper shield and conductor.
Generally the coax used by cable tv companies have center conductors that are made of copper coated steel wire.
As a whole scrap yards will not buy coax for copper bearing material. You may be ok with putting it in the shred pile.
Communication coax often has both copper center conductor and copper shield. Often the shield on this type of coax is silver in color. If you hit it with a file you will see the copper color underneath. If you have a wire stripper and a good supply of this type of coax you will find them easy to strip. 73, Mike

yeah if i get any coax i generally stick a magnet to it and if it sticks i dont have to file it=) unless you mean the shield is ali coated copper?
i usually cut the ends off and let it go as steel.
i did find copper coax once the shield was silver and the center was copper i dont come across it very often as much as i would like to=)
you know what was funny the cable company we had gotten out to put up new cable lines just put the old one in out trash bin ha funny guess they dont care good for me cause it was copper core=)
it also seems like they dont take there satalite dishes or the black boxes when people laps on the payments.
