My sister and I bought a dumpster company in October 2015, and have been amazed at the amount of good stuff people throw away! We're in the process of applying for a scrap yard license with the state of Michigan for a 9 acre site that we purchased from a guy who's had some serious health issues. His father and grandfather ran a scrapyard there for over 80 years.
I just purchased a self-contained cardboard bailer, and I'm looking also at the possibility of bailing clothing for rags.
It will probably take me about a year to get everything set up at the site so that I can sort my waste stream out easily. We also get a lot of what is called C and D,( construction and demolition), and we have a site nearby that will take scrap wood and junk pallets for grinding. I'm not looking to make a big killing in this sorting of the waste stream, But I am serious about not sending it to a landfill when it can be used for something else.

I am looking forward to the forum for insights and general knowledge concerning this business, because I know that there's a need for it, and I always need money in my pocket!
