    New to scrap Delmarva Peninsula

I'm an artist and long time scavenger. I do work with electronics and computers. I started taking apart scanners to use the glass and then found the motors. Really fun to play with.
I found all the boards and everything and realized the amount of valuable metals inside. I'm accumulating quickly motors, RAM, PCI cards, Motherboards, and lower grade boards. I'm still learning how to figure out which boards a low grade vs high grade. I kind of want to learn how to do the gold refining myself but could use some faster cash. I'm hoping someone can help me with getting this stuff to buyers. The first time I drove to a scrap yard I barely covered my gas cost. I can't seem to find any e scrap buyers in DE or nearby MD Philly is the closest I can find but its 90 miles one way. I'd love some tips especially the easiest way to sell my scrap. I'm paranoid about doing transaction with online buyers.

Welcome to the forum. You have done yourself a great favor and a huge step toward your goal by joining this forum.

First we don't encourage or discuss gold refining there another forum that does that very well. Why don't we discuss it, its very dangerous and can result in harm to the person doing it and others. It can cause long term pollution, stock piles of toxic chemicals that can not be easily disposed of. Also its often stated that inexperienced/ill equipped refiners recover far less precious metals than the professionals.

So how where to sell your hard worked for materials, we have buyers here on the forum. At the top of each page there is a "button" scrap buyers and sellers. Read the reviews, learn what they buy and how they grade the materials.

One concern new members have is what is about shipping? I live in eastern North Carolina with only Yellow Freight and no extra service. I just sent out another pallet yesterday and when I started out I was shipping 50-60lb boxes via Fedex. I rely on my buyer to arrange shipping but we also have a member who specializes in shipping.

So read old threads and current ones until you know what YOU want to do with you materiel. In the mean time save up what you get and keep reading. 73, Mike

I appreciate the reply. I hope I can figure this out. I'm pretty sure I've got a small but regular supply of electronics lined up in addition to the stuff I come across trash picking. Right now my supply is pretty small but I don't have much space. I messed up on my scrap yard trip by not figuring out what all I had first. They were happy to take my scrap and give me the lowest price they could.
