tell my friend we need to sell online

Hello all I am new here been scrapping for a few years. I started this thread to hopefully prove a point to my coworker by tomorrow. We are doing inside demo work on an old bank and securities building and the owner made us a deal he said you get everything out of this building and you can have it,and that's how you get paid. So my friend and I agree to this and I knew it would be a huge hob for just us two.the electrical room and the boiler room my boss made us the deal on is completely full of old I.T.E panels, boards, fuses, etc and also is two huge thermopak boilers,9 ge step down transformers,I have several 900 amp fuses.ill post some pics of the room whole before I started I've been working since Monday on it and its going to be worth it I think I have a really decent payday coming but my coworker doesn't believe me please prove me right. He wants to take LL of this to a scrap yard instead of having me call a surplus dealer which would get way more than scrap prices and this stuff was still connected but out of service for quite a few years. I have at least #1000 of copper feeder wire and double that in comm wire. So can someone please let me know how to get top dollar please.ill list all in next post.
    . Thank you

Welcome to the forum. If you have been scrapping for a few years then all the talk in the world wouldn't change that guys mind. Tell him to come on here and do some reading, along with yourself, and maybe he will learn a thing or two. Always read the old post, use the search box, and when you think you read enough, read some more. If you got the buyer already in mind and lined up, call he for a quote, and show your buddy what kind of money can be made. have him call the yard and get a price on just one thing, like the common wire, and go from there. Just imo selling used equipment that you can not check out first, is a problem waiting to happen, especially if your going to sell it as "working pull" or "working but untested" unless you have the insurance policy to back that up in the event something bad was to happen.

Fast money is great, but money lost due to ignorance is just plain stupidity. I would tell him to get quotes before you sell, and it would only take a couple of extra hours to quote thing out. Sorry, don't mean to sound arrogant or anything like that. This is just my opinion and I have been looking at "better than scrap" pricing for quite a while now. The scrap yards are only paying the minimums that they can get away with, sorry guys that have a yard. Good luck to you on this.

If none of what tski72 works, strike a deal with your friend to split the material, either right in half or see if you can get the items worth the most to you. Then, when all is said and sold, have a good laugh at his total, which should be a fraction of yours.

good advice above...but it IS pretty simple (this guy just wants money TODAY). You can get FAR FAR more money in many cases selling to the proper people...the scrapyard is the LAST place to send something and generally the lowest value you will get. You just have to decide if the effort to market the item otherwise equates to enough extra money for that effort. Has to match or exceed what you want to make per hour of work. The other thing is can you store it or sit on it for a small amount of time (a month or 2 makes sens in most cases).

I can tell you what I do...I sell EVERYTHING that makes sens online and some things locally (heavier items). I can afford to make a few phone calls before I go to the yard LOL. I can also tell you I make SIGNIFICANT amount of money reselling vs scrapping...just sayin'.

PROFIT is made when you BUY/ACQUIRE NOT when you sell
