    Greetings Scrappers!

My name is Sean I'm a journeyman electrican living in Oklahoma. I got into metal recovery two years ago or so (not counting Cu been doing that awhile). As an electrican I was amazed at the amount of precious metals I had been oblivious to for years (like the Tin plate on copper lol come on tin is magnetic but Ag is diamagnetic ). I have recovered Ag, and Au(maybe some Pt group but I haven't attempted to seperate it out yet) from ceramic, fiber, and ferrous bases useing mainly acid dissolution and some electrolysis. I have some amount of knowledge and practice, but seek to hone my skills and network with like minded people here.

Nice to hear from you Rusty T! Always good to have more electricians on the forum. You might get dinged if you want to talk about gold refining on here. Seems that it is verboten...

Thanks for the welcome and the advice DakotaRog. I promise to be on my best behavior. I make money where I can and have hit the rich neighboorhoods many times on trash day. I'm looking at a pile of Ac units right now in my back yard and when the sun starts to give me a break tonight their gonna be in pieces.

I would check with your local scrap yards about the laws on scrapping A/C units. In Florida you have to have a receipt for a new a/c unit in your name that you had installed within the past 90 days, or you have to have a company letterhead from an A/C company that they gave the material to you and you are allowed to scrap the material and able to receive the money for it, and it has to be dated within the past 90 days. but it all depends on you local and state laws.

Good catch Randerson. I have receipts for 2 units, but carry a professional license (electrical) which allows me to scrap units recovered as a "contractor" during demo work. Can also scrap burnt copper. I only do that if the recovered copper wiring is already burned as I do enjoy nature. I lived in Lake Placid, FL for about a year in the mid 80's. I remember how huge all the insects were considering what we were used to in OK.

Yes our bugs are bigger, but the deer here are like large dogs to other places in the U.S.
