Ive been reading the post here on the forum for the last couple of months and finally decided to join. I live in eastern Maine. I own and operate a auto recycling yard I also deal in ferrous and non ferrous metals. Ive been recycling scrap metal and vehicles since I was 14 (will be 9 years april 1st).
But a little about me and the work I do as well as some of my certifications.

I mostly deal in jobs no one else in washington county wants to deal with such as school buses, large environmental clean up sites (on one now and trying to get another one even closer to me in the same town as the other one). Im EPA 608 Type 1 Certified and EPA 609 Certified for Freon Recovery. For me where I live the closes scrap yard is 75 miles one way which is closed into the snow melts, so I have to stock pile in the yard and its hard with over 2ft of snow on the ground still.
But unlike most areas theres only four junkyards within a 100 mile radius including my cousin 20 miles from me and we all deal in vehicles mostly. Im in one of the few areas you can pay $50 to $100 for a junk vehicle still no matter what prices are.

I got started in the industry when my family purchased a closed salvage yard in 2005 6 miles from our current location which included school buses, trucks, ect... (all crushed in 2007), and over 40 tons of steel still on the site that was finally finshed being removed last year after cutting over 1000 tires off there rims.
But like I said I mostly deal in large jobs that will bring the most money in and haul junk vehicles in as the calls come in which are getting harder to get the lower our population gets in the Calais Maine area.
