This little lady went dumpster diving...

Hi. I'm Fate. I live in Richmond CA. And I'm a freelance scrapper. I wish I could work in a yard but being the only girl working outside the office has its drawbacks...

So now I just find random leavings wherever I can, or charm various businesses and construction companies into letting me come and clean up.

Right now I have a large number of radio receivers and handheld radio units, cb and two way. They came as a donation from a friend who works with the county when they upgraded.

A helpful friend of mine immediately began tearing them apart. I'm having a bit of trouble deciding what metals are in these things. Put me in front of computer or new technology and I'm a pretty saavy girl when it comes to metal. Older stuff I'm a little shakey on.

So my friend starts hollering abd jumping up n down like he won the lottery. I think hes nuts but he swears that there's a "metric f*** ton" of very valuable stuff inside and on the boards. So he began tearing these ceramic things out of the boards like a fiend. Making a horrible mess. So I stopped him before he destroyed them all. Now I've got my own ton of boards and pieces strewn all about and no idea what they are and what to do with them.

    Help?

Welcome from the Dakota's. I am not very knowledgeable about e-scrap, so I will let the experts answer your question. Until they come on line I would encourage you to use your library card, it came with the membership and search the old threads. On the top right hand corner of the page is a search engine. Below it is an advance search option that I just found after a year on the forum. Use the advanced search and you should find lots of information. On the bottom of each post is a list of related threads that will expand your knowledge even more. Good luck.

Chances are good it's not a metric f@#%ing ton... but then again, perhaps it all came from a VERY large county... read up, most of the info you seek is probably within the confines of this forum.

Hi Fate, welcome to SMF. Your helpful friend may have not been much help, but I guess only time will tell. If those radios were still in working condition, or possibly even if not, they could well have been worth much more than scrap, uhmmm.... once upon a time ; )

you can sell those units to preppers and survivalists in a hart beat. but if they are old id be old brown boards and i wouldn't be able to make money stripping them i'd just throw them in the e waste bin and take my 10 cents a lb.
