Experienced Scrapper
I have come across a lead for some AA batteries....lots of them. Are there any buyers for this kind of scrap in the Dallas area? What's the going(low) rate for scrap alkaline batts so that I can get a conservative estimate? I've called up several recycling centers but none of them are any help. It also looks like I might have a good amount of Lithium batts as well, but haven't come across a scrap yard that would take them.

Thanks for the welcoming. I did a search and went through the 8-10 threads that came up when I searched "alkaline", but there's not much info. I've PMed a couple of local people that I have seen on here as well.

Welcome to the forum. I have not been able to recycle alkaline batteries in almost five years of scrapping, thiere are some people in the buyers section of this forum that buy lithium batteries.

By me the alkaline ones goes in with my steel .115 a pound for sheet iron

Yeah, it seems like traveling 300 miles round trip to pick them up would be a waste, so I'll have to see how many pounds of lithium batts they have, and what kind of price I can get. I knew when searching for alkaline recycling, that finding limited info on prices and such would pretty much lead them to being useless. But they supposedly have a lot of new packs as well, like 7000 8-packs...resale maybe?

Well I talked to a lady today about what is available. Apparently they supplied a bunch of batteries to this military place, but they went out of business so a lot of the stock is sitting in a warehouse down there. I'll have to ask and see what kind of dates are on them. I figure if I can sell the 8-packs in bulk, then 7000 packs of them might not be a bad thing after all.Originally Posted by Mechanic688

Same thing I was thinking as well. She made it clear that I can find out what the scrap value is and she would take a hit on it just to get them moved. The issue is trying to find someone to buy it, but I'm working on that.

Thanks for that link. I saw someone mention that on here while I was searching, but it's a good 4 hour drive from where I live in TX. I could always call and see what the prices are though.
I am a buyer on Li-Ion batteries and Ni-cad and Ni-Mh batteries, how much weight do you have?

I'm not sure how much Li-Ion there is, but I know there is a good 3500lbs of AA batteries to be had. If there is enough Li-Ion, I will definitely be going do and grabbing some if the price is right. Can you PM me what kind of scrap prices you have for both of them so that I can have something to negotiate with?
edit: just clicked on the link in your sig with the prices. I'll contact the lady I was talking to on Friday about what the Li-Ion stock is and see what kind of deal we can work out. I will be keeping in touch with you via PM when I get some more info. Thanks for your help.

Dont confuse lithium with lithium ion batteries. They are not the same thing. Lithium ion batteries have scrap value to myself and other buyers here. Lithium batteries like the button cells found on motherboards are hazardous material that needs to be disposed of properly especially if they are old or leaking. If the lithium batteries are new enough and in working order then there is resale potential of 2-5.00 per battery on average. Those CR2032's are a very common lithium button cell size and sell new for around 3.50 each at Walmart/Home Depot.

Thanks for that info. As you can tell I am very new to this and just trying to research and feel my way through. The lithium ion batts are still good, but the alkaline are not(expired in 2011)...tis a shame too, I was thinking of selling 100 8-packs for $100. 7300+ 8-packs = a good potential profit. Also, the BA-5590, which there are 1800+ of, are like a 15ah 12V portable power supply.
